  1. Seeing the number of folks that are calling shenanigans on the above post I'm taking the courtesy of proving my point.

It was even mentioned in a slashdot article.

  2. There was an article on either the register or ars that reported them using GPL'ed code in one of their virtualization dealies.

    That's the trouble.

It's more cost effective in the short run to rape and pillage our fossil fuel reserves right now and reap the rewards, while the costs in shortages and damaged environments is eaten by later generations.

Green energy isn't sustainable right now, simply because we have to compete with people having less scruples than we. In the dog eat dog world of energy economics, there is no such thing as a referee, so Big Oil and the like have nothing to stop them from milking the earth's resources for all they're worth and then laughing all the way to the bank.

I see green energy like complex carbohydrates that digest slowly but give you an immense payoff down the line in terms of better health, while dirty energy is like a big fat greasy burger with cake for buns that gives you a big high right away.

    Agreed.

It's my understanding that only orphan works are being included in the settlement, so the only people who are being hurt are

    1) Incapable of protecting their rights anyway
    2) Too lazy to do so, or
    3) Copyright trolls looking to pounce on innocent infringers.

Mind you, I'd rather have the opt-out deadline be replaced by a zero-liability cease and desist option where someone who proves copyright can have google stop providing access, but can't claim damages.

But this isn't half bad even not considering the alternatives.

Also, consider if I were an iranian dissident who had hard proof that the elections were rigged? Isn't it foreseeable that, with protesters being deemed to be against Allah by the powers that be, that outing me would put me in grave danger?
