    Iraq was better off with saddam than it is now. Saddam was bad and we could have made iraq great. But no, we had to shoot ourselves in the foot by fucking it up. We screwed up, game over. Time to cut our losses and get out before we lose any more troops in what is clearly a civil war.

    Taking into account how much of the inverse square attenuated radiation was actually available for the radio to absorb would be a better measure of efficiency.

    The earth receives but a minute teensy fraction of all the solar output the sun gives off in total...and it's still a big fat can of whoop ass.

    You need a friggin strong transmitter to overcome inverse square over any appreciable distance unles s you aim.

    You still have an inverse square relationship based on how close you are to the discharge point.

    For a wire, the cross section is constant. For earth, it's friggin huge but starts out teeny, so presumably the area getting the energy pulled into it will need to be protected.

    The amount sapped from sheer friction with the ground will make the "turbine tax" negligible.

    Not to mention that wind energy is constantly refreshed by solar input.

    I might not approve of a riot, but then again I wouldn't exactly be a fan of big government suppressing the protests with deadly force.

    If I knew the elections were fair and square, or indeed even if I didn't give a shit either way, I'd have to be pretty damned arrogant to be so ruthless.

    I have nothing but sympathy for the victims in both cases, and I highly disapprove of violent repression that is COMMON to both.
