    I don't think we should moderate the stories when they're out, but rather when they're in the Submission Queue... this way, we'd get to see the submissions and vote on what we'd most like to see a discussion on...

    another advantage would be that you'd get to see the articles that don't make it... (I'm sure there's lots of great stuff that we never see...)

  5. not quite perfected... on Solving Chess? · · Score: 2

    I know someone who made a chess program in his CompSci class... he programmed an AI for it and everything, but for some reason it started to play the opposite of the perfect game... it would *TRY* to lose... even if you just had your king left, it would just sit there and move the same piece back and forth between two squares...

    If we can reverse this, does it mean that we'll have the perfect game? =)

    I bet the RIAA is dancing with glee at this news. Not only does it give them more control over the music, but if the lawsuit DOES shut down mp3.com (which it would.. have you seen the figures they're asking for?!) they killed the major distributor of free legal music on the 'net... Hm... all these bands are going to have to find someplace else to go... wonder where they'll turn to...

    Hello! I think the point whizzed right past your head.

    The lawsuit was based on my.mp3.com, which had databases of thousands of CD albums that you could access from anywhere, assuming that you 'owned' the CD (or at least could fake it...).

    this is for all the people who will inevitably complain that there's no difference between 128 and 256kbps... take a video and compress *IT* into an mpeg at 128, then at 256... note the difference... that's what's you're doing to your audio...

    uh oh! then they have to sue google for having a link to this site... (if they don't already, they will eventually..) then they have to sue everyone who's linking to google... then anyone who links to them... etc. etc.

    If I'm not mistaken, most voice recognition software makes you sit there for quite some time and program it so it recognizes your voice... wouldn't you have to do this with this player?

    Also, how would it be able to tell if you're talking to it or talking to someone else in the car?

    but just going that far wouldn't be good enough... after that you would have to have a police investigation at the house and the person who did the poisoning would have a, say, 50% chance of being convicted for murder... now THAT would make things interesting ;)

    Does anyone else find it kind of ironic how as more and more people make a big fuss about Napster, the more exposure to the public it gets? The people suing are kind of kicking themselves in the ass with this...

    I was sitting around at school the other day and happened to overhear a conversation between a couple students where one had first heard about Napster through the news of it getting sued... They're getting some free advertising ;)

    Allright. How do they know that it was *ME* that downloaded the song? It could have been my sister, my dad, my grandma, my friend using my computer, my puppy who was playing with the mouse, etc. They can't prove that *I* downloaded a thing... So how will they pin the blame on actual people rather than just IP addy's?

    ... but usually only while playing the games. I can't tell you how many stories of broken controllers/walls/game systems I've heard because people got so frustrated at the damned games...

    Seriously, though, I find video games as an outlet for my aggression a lot of the time... If I get really pissed off at something, I'll go play games for a while, and I'll be totally calm afterwards.

    Honestly, though, who *WOULDN'T* go for that 90% of the market? The whole reason they're making the game is to make money... by going for the area with the highest amount of users, they can get the most money with the least effort.
