At the end of the day I guess it's just like at the cinema, Avatar was phenomenal in 3D but little else has been, likewise, it appears games are suited to 3D too.

I'll assume it's the difference between something genuinely built in 3D, and that shitty cardboard cut out version of 3D.

Still, it's early days, and Toshiba is already testing glasses-less 3D TVs so I think it'll only get better. All in all, I don't think it's a bad technology, in some cases it certainly adds something, when you're stood at the top of a massive tower in Assassins Creed looking down, you can really feel the height.

Essentially it comes down to which movies / shows filmed it in 3d and which ones did it in post-processing. The ones that filmed it with 3d in mind always will look better in 3d than other films that say they are 3d. Coraline was quite good in 3d and there weren't many gimmicky scenes it. It just looked nice. Until more films and tv shows purposely film in this manner the 3d just isn't going to look great.

You're acting like I am making that shit up. There are dirty panty vending machines right now having money inserted in as we speak.

    The Japanese are freaks.

This really isn't quite true anymore. It may have been true at one time but it isn't at this point, at least in a legal way. Last time I was there (studied abroad for 6 weeks) I asked about it and did actually look around for any kind of vending machine that had such a product. I was told that there was a law regarding used products that was used to prevent the used panty machines from showing up. I did find a claw machine that had small plastic balls that had new women's panties in them. I suppose if you looked long enough you might find ones that had used, but it would have to be in a shady area. Just thought I would clear that up, or at least clear it up as far as I know. Here is a link to website with some info: used panty info

It should also be noted that there has been a decent swing back to PCs lately. This is at least in part because of both the humble bundles and steam.

My publishers don't give me stats that distinguish what ebook readers are purchasing my books, so I really don't know what percentage the kindle accounts for.

Based on what I've gleaned so far from my own effort, I'd say that Amazon outsells the other ebook retailers by a considerable amount.

In one month, I might sell 1,000 ebooks on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. In the same month, I will sell about 100 copies through the iBookstore, Smashwords, Kobo and Barnes and Noble combined.

I am curious if it is all types of books or just particular types of books that sell better on Amazon. For instance, I try to buy any sci-fi or fantasy books from places outside of Amazon. It also would be neat to see how the four device centric stores (sony/B&N/amazon/apple) compare to each other along with how independent ebook stores (fictionwise/smashwords/baen/wowio/etc) are doing.

Why are all the good movies disappearing from Netflix streaming service. I know they are losing Starz, but these are disappearing now.

My guess is Netflix is headed for that dot.com graveyard.

It isn't just streaming, there have been quite a few things that were in disc form and now are no longer available via disc. This sometimes also just removes them from being available in Netflix, which isn't good either.

  11. Re:All-Streaming is a Great Idea on Netflix CEO Comments On Recent Decisions · · Score: 1

I think that the decision to exit the DVD-by-mail market is a great one. Maybe it's just because I'm a college kid, but most people I know don't even bother renting DVDs anymore. As Netflix gains more and more licenses for various production companies, and their ability to stream online grows, nearly everyone I know has switched to exclusively streaming (I know I certainly have). Streaming is where the market is at, these days, since we're practically glued to our technology, particularly the internet.

    Good on you, Netflix.

I agree this is a good thing, but until the infrastructure for internet connections are good enough to get the quality of video / audio you get out of blu-ray I still want the disc by mail option. The other part of this is that when you eliminate the disc by mail you also eliminate the commentary options along with other nice extras that the discs have which get removed for streaming. So I think that both services have good reasons to keep them.

In a world of 7 Billion people, 1 million people is still 1 in 7000. Not a small amount of people in raw numbers, but a very small percentage of the populuation of the world. Even if you only count computer users, that only a very small percentage. There' about a billion personal computers in use. So while this game (whatever it is, never heard of it) may have a million users, it's still only about 0.1% of computer users. Also, there's no reason this couldn't exist in a walled garden. There's tons of indie developers selling stuff for iOS. That store doesn't support pay what you want, but there's no reason they couldn't sell it for 99 cents, (or free) and ask for donations on their web site for people who wanted to pay more.

The humble bundle is not OS specific. They are bundles of indie games for the 3 biggest desktop OS platforms (linux, OSX, windows). It also lets you pay more to specific parties if you wish (more to devs, for instance), along with having no drm. It is something that would never work in walled gardens because the walled garden care takers would object to some of the best parts of how it is sold.
