    So following the "letter" instead of the "intent" of the law is "abuse" now? What about when the government follows the "letter" of a three-srikes law, and sentences (or threatens to sentence) someone for their third strike, which happens to be lifting a snickers bar? Or uses forfeiture laws, which were "intended" to punish drug dealers to take whatever they want from anyone they want (like "your underage son got a blow job from his sixth-month-older-but-over-legal-age girlfriend in your car, so it's ours now")?

    I remember all that, plus using Norton's defrag to put IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS on the floppy first, followed by CONFIG.SYS, then the drivers in the order they appeared in CONFIG.SYS, then COMMAND.COM and AUTOEXEC.BAT, then anything in AUTOEXEC.BAT in the order they appeared, just to get the boot time down. I think I got the boot time down to a quarter of what it was, if not faster.

    However, this is more like charging someone with armed robbery just because they were in the store at the same time it was robbed. Anyone can walk into a store you're in and rob it, just like anyone can add you to their Facebook group and act like an asshole.

    Argh, replying to myself. I used UK numbers, not England only. If you quoted England numbers only, then those below are correct, the actual rate is higher in England than the US. My point that the raw numbers are meaningless stands.

    No, no it's not. The USA also has something like five times the population. The raw numbers are meaningless. If you take your numbers you quoted above and divide by the population figures taken from Wikipedia, you get 0.54 per 100k for the US and .51 per 100k for the UK. Hardly "staggeringly LESS."

    It would probably work fine as long as you limited yourself to web sites that haven't been updated since then. You know, text only with maybe a couple .gif or .jpg images. A modern site covered in flash, css, javascript, and dynamic content, not so much.

    You don't have to use Google Play to distribute your app, because installing other app stores or direct downloads is a check box in the phone's settings, not a matter of jail-breaking the phone and voiding the warranty. How many times do we have to repeat this? I had a dozen Humble Bundle games installed on my phone before I even left the store or entered my google account, because I had them on the micro-SD card I brought with me when I bought the phone.

    Even the cheap $30 earpiece I got from Wal-Mart tells me when it's not connected to the phone. Just this morning, I started pulling out of my driveway when it said "Lost connection." I had left the phone on my desk in the living room. If I turn it on and my phone isn't in range, it says "No phone is connected" instead of "Phone one connected" after announcing the talk time.

    You also don't need to pay TrueCrypt every time you upgrade your drive.

    And as I was waiting to buy an e-ink reader until someone came out with one with a built-in light, I got one as soon as I found them in-stock at the local B&N. I have more than 400 books on it, mostly from Baen's web store. I can read all day without being tethered to the wall as I had been; reading for more than 5 hours on my notebook means needing a charge. I can wander into the kitchen for a drink or a snack and continue reading without having to turn on the lights.

    Yes, I'm sure Samsung developed the F700 in four months.

    The point is that Samsung was developing the F700 before the iPhone was revealed, but were not allowed to mention that in court after Apple brought up the F700 as an example of copying.

    If you're on trial for something and the judge tells the prosecution that they're not allowed to bring up your previous conviction, that all goes out the window if you mention it while on the stand, and they can then question you on it. This is supposed to be the same thing.

    The difference in GW2 is that the "coolest outfit" doesn't also allow you to wtfpwn the PvE content and roflstomp other players in PvP (unlike, for instance, Aion and WoW).
