Yep (NZ was 1893) and South Australia followed a year later. South Australia was also the first place in the world that allowed women to enter Parliament.
So, by following the primary vote, One Nation (8.4%) should have more seats than the Democrats. Do you really want to just go by the primary vote?
In my state, South Australia, the ALP did not gain a majority of the "primary vote" (42.05% vs 34.48 and that is just the Libs, not the coalition - the National party is small in SA). The Coalition EASILY won the two party preferred tally (53.11% vs 46.89%). The Democrats won 10.14% of the primary vote in this state (in the Lower House, even).
There have been numerous times the ALP has not won a majority of the primary vote but they have still formed government.
The fact remains that the Liberals went to this election with a policy to introduce the GST, and they won. Or should we overthrow our political system just when it doesn't suit our favourite party? Even the Democrats are willing to negotiate with the Government about this.
Right, but they didn't want to just kill people. That could be done more easily and safely from a distance with more devastating explosives. They wanted their victims to plea for their lives, face-to-face. They wanted them to know who was doing it. This makes me very sad. What could make someone want to do this?
I think it was in Scotland, and it was not a student who carried out the horrendous act. It was an adult.
There was a similar massacre in Tasmania, in 1996, when an adult went on a shooting spree at a popular tourist location (36 dead). He is serving life in prison, and it resulted in stronger gun laws in Australia.
I don't think any relelvant American politician (or judge) would be willing to risk their necks to restrict gun access. Given the history of assassinations in the US, I really can't blame them.
Of course, if these kids were "smart" and they really wanted carnage, they would not bother with guns but just blow up the school. In that case, the whole issue of gun access is irrelevant. The problem is somewhat deeper, and indicative of a problem in modern society.
Heh. I heard that this morning as I was in that semi-asleep mode after waking up. They had me confused there for a few minutes until I remembered the date.
Please forgive me if this is a wrong or stupid observation.
It is not illegal to import certain software into the US, but it is illegal to then export that same software back out of the US, right?
To access a European site from my location in Australia, the packets pass through networks located in the US. So, to download software from a European site, I must first "import" it into the US and then "export" it to Australia.
Do you think the US government could or would ever do something about this?
For some reason, Channel 9 only shows Voyager (ugh) these days and not DS9 or B5. They were halfway through the fifth season of B5, and it just stopped. What is with that? Oh well - the fifth season looked like it sucked anyway.
DS9 hasn't been on TV for ages. Is it on Foxtel? They stopped laying cable long before it reached my neighbourhood... and I'm not paying for satellite just so I can see nothing but sport and old movies.
All acronyms are meant to be pronounced. Not all abbreviations are. There is a difference. But really, it all depends on what everybody says. Are you going to get really annoyed the next time someone says "SCSI"?

There was one mass-shooting in a Scottish school, but it was not a child or teenager. It was a middle aged man.

Think 'politically correct'.

The Gnome foot:
Is that still similar enough to infringe on a trademark? I have no idea about trademark law, but it seems a bit silly.
April! April! I mean!
Hail? In March? It was nice and sunny in Adelaide today. Weird.
The problem people have is you don't hold it like a normal mouse, in your palm. Instead, you grab it with your fingertips.
:-)
Hmmm. That is how I always use my mouse. I love my mouse... it is a Logitech MouseMan Sensa that I bought in 1995. I'll never buy another mouse
Why did Logitech stop making that design? Oh well.
Drunk missiles! Yeah!
Was that an eyeball that just flew past me?
"Where are you?" "Over here."
"Behind ya!"
I thought it started in France when they switched calendars?
Not just The Age, but also The Advertiser (Adelaide) and suspect most major newspapers.

:)
Darn you TripleJ
Minds are like parachutes... they work best when open

But parachutes also work best when filled with air
Does the U.S. need Living Space(tm)?

That was supposed to be for the comment you were replying to (up one level) :)
How appropriate. You fight like a cow :)
Destroy him, my robots!
Lots of comments.
I tried saying "Krahn" and it made me sound American. I've always pronounced it "cron" :)
