What I was referring to specifically was the fact that all the "Birthers" have claimed that Obama's birth certificate was created in photoshop. A little digging finds that factcheck.org got the original and certified it, but that wasn't widely reported when it happened so without looking it up I wouldn't know that. And because I just don't care that much I never had.
The fact is that with the information provided by the media at a normal consumption level you hit a serious falsifiability wall with the issue. I don't know if they photoshopped it, I doubt it, but its extremely hard to prove they didn't.
Its the exact same problem as the allegations that Lance Armstrong took steroids. A positive test proves hes guilty, but a negative test proves nothing. All you can do is understand the logic trap you're getting into and take everything with a grain of salt.
Exactly, this is just like the chapter in Freakonomics that pissed everyone off. If we can find a way to have our cake and eat it to then lets do that. Reducing consumption simply for the sake of reducing consumption is pointless, the reason we are doing it is because without some new scientific leap we can't sustain current levels.
The ideal future to me is everyone on earth living exactly the life that they want to.
I get the impression from some of these people that their ideal future is everyone living in Tee-pees, eating nothing but tofu, and dying of old age at 40. Liberals is the wrong word for these people, they are fascists more than anything.
The most likely to succeed solutions to global warming are the ones that require people to change their lives the least. That is why this is a better idea than trying to get everyone in Texas to drive a Prius.
I wouldn't care if the man was born in Kenya to be honest, there are lots of other problems to have with this administration, but I haven't seen anything on the news proving he was born in the US yet.

In both cases the bombs lacked oxidizers (and other things too) - which meant that at best they might blow the windows out of the car the bomb was in. But all the politicians were eager to make hay and said exactly the same sort of thing, "if the bomb had exploded it could have killed thousands!"

Lets see, in the decades after the US became a democracy, it had no votes for women. Had legal slavery based on color of the skin. Denied citizenship to asians and the natives. Slaughtered millions of the natives and deported the survivors to concentration camps where they were expected to slowly die with no natural or mineral resources.
The former USSR nations are not doing great, but most have NOT yet slipped as low as the past of the US of A.

The whole idea that the within the military minorities and the poor are over-represented is simply not true. In my Marine infantry platoon back in 2006 there was 1 black guy, 1 Asian guy, 2 or 3 Hispanics, and the entire rest of the platoon was white. The majority of the platoon was middle class, with only 2 or 3 people coming from actual poverty. There were even 2 pretty wealthy guys, ones family had oil money and the others father owned a law firm if I remember correctly. The demographic in the military actually roughly represents the population of the US in general, with few exceptions(The upper class is very under-represented overall).
As for the idea that all service men are blood thirsty murderers... I don't feel like I can keep an even head responding to this, so I'll just say this: You have no idea what people go through with the intention of keeping you safe and you don't deserve the protection those of us who would risk our lives provide.
I was actually told that regenrative breaking diesel hybrid is the best choice by the listed alternative feuls expert at a major university just the other week. Very interesting conversation, but so over my head that it almost hurt.
What we aren't thinking about here is that a electrical car doesn't generate its own electricity, that still has to come from somewhere. All we are doing is moving the source of the pollution we are all trying to avoid farther up the line.
If we support our electric cars with coal plants... well, that didn't do much good did it? And just TRY to get that many nuke plants build, most people will have a heart attack at the idea.
The problem with this is that there is really no replacement for oil out there. We can talk up all the alternative fuels we want but they are simply not as convenient as pumping oil out of the ground.
Now I'm all for hurrying along the inevitable changeover, but there is no way in hell barring a major advancement we don't know about yet that they are going to stick to this. I give it 5 years before they move the date out past 2020.

I think the argument is that when the armed crook comes to rob a citizen, that citizen will be armed too.
