As long as governments are involved in the funding of scientific research this kind of crap will continue.
Powerful politicians stake their political lives on something scientific that they may or may not understand on any level, and suddenly opposing scientific views are damaging to their careers. Even if their side of the argument is correct, they muddy the water with dishonest tactics designed to discredit the opposition. Al Gore and climate change are of course the best examples of this.
Does that mean the government shouldn't be involved in funding research? Of course not. The money has to get into the right hands somehow. I guess it really just means we need better politicians, but since that isn't going to happen, we may have to just deal with things as they are.
Do you have a source for that? I've heard it claimed before but the chances of someone actually getting hit by a round fired at a low enough trajectory to kill seems extremely low, and if it were to happen then it wouldn't be anywhere near the actual celebration.
Now why didn't we kill the motherfucker with a single missile at the beginning of this whole thing rather than let thousands die in the fighting for what was already a forlorn conclusion?
Iran's goal for space exploration, and all of their technological innovation for that matter, is to force everyone in the universe to convert to their horrible religion or die... I for one hope that they keep on failing.
Well, if you replace revolutionary medical breakthroughs with stupidly easy to use interfaces and streamlined packaging for features we've already seen, you've nailed it!
Holy shit, what is wrong with the reading comprehension on slashdot these days? At no point do I say that the spraying was justified, all that I said was that of the tools he could misuse that was the least harmful.
Jesus Christ, now I remember why I don't come here anymore.
From the video it looked like he was trying to shut them up, and I'm sure some comeuppance is on the way, but lets not go nuts about the severity of the macing.
I've seen hundreds of people sprayed and never once have I seen anyone actually need medical treatment. I've seen dozens of hand to hand take-downs following careful training guidelines, and I've seen several broken limbs and a broken neck so severe that it caused an internal decapitation.
I'm glad that Tony Bologna sprayed those girls instead of trying to shut them up another way. People recover from being maced.
Seriously. I was sprayed with military grade OC and then had to run an obstacle course and fight someone as a deployment requirement while in the Marines.
It hurts, but you get over it. Everyone's losing their damn mind ever since Tony Bologna sprayed those girls, but there's good reason to use the stuff to pacify a situation. With pepper spray nobody gets hurt, where as physical restraints can, and frequently do, lead to all sorts of injuries.
Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No." They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed in the footsteps of good men like my father or President Truman. Decent men who believed in a day's work for a day's pay. Instead they followed the droppings of lechers and communists and didn't realize that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late. Don't tell me they didn't have a choice. Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody Hell, all those liberals and intellectuals and smooth-talkers... and all of a sudden nobody can think of anything to say.
The problem is its actually the minority that wants freedom. Seriously.
Iran's rural population is huge, and its made up of what basically amount to Muslim rednecks. They're the morons who keep assholes in power, and they probably all support this idea.
Unless this dude's family is composed of millionaires, this is pretty much game over. At this point you may as well spend your time trying to assign blame so you can exact some form of revenge, what are they going to do to you, pay for your room, board, food, and medical care forever?

Doesn't the DOE spend a good deal of its time dealing with nukes?
Isn't that kind of important? Even to libertarians?

They found that a bullet fired straight up isn't dangerous to people on the ground. Its just like dropping a bullet from a hot air balloon.
That said, bullets fired at, say, a 45 degree angle would be very dangerous.
Oh, I don't think we have to worry about him. He debated his way right out of the running a while ago now.

Oh that's all just Semitics. ... What? I'm misusing that word? ...That would explain a lot actually.
...Will make brakes that stop working for like, no reason?
Well, if you replace revolutionary medical breakthroughs with stupidly easy to use interfaces and streamlined packaging for features we've already seen, you've nailed it!
...Oh wait. Damn.

A. Learn to fucking read.
B. Learn to fucking read.
C. Learn to fucking read.
I'm asthmatic and I was fine.
What about Scorpio? Didn't he conquer the east coast in the 90s?

*Woosh!*
Unless the loser makes campaign contributions, then its finders felons.

Its time to go back to burning dead dinosaurs, this nuclear stuff is clearly too dangerous!
Just look at how many news stories there are about it.
This must be what it was like to live in the 70s.
First the offer free identity theft, then they offer to help you monitor it for free! Sony's really pulling out all of the stops.
