The point you make is valid for desktop apps, however faster ram often translates into a few more fps in Direct3D, which some people care a lot about. Not sure about the actual numbers for DDR3 vs. DDR2 though (if any).

The Napster affair proved that they were motivated by greed first. They could have waited the whole P2P phenomenon to come into some perspective as we now know that P2P is not killing the music business, but they chose to be militantly against it and that makes them suckers. Now that the free distribution + donations/tours model looks like its working, they want back in. No go for me, attitude is important in music. Besides, Metallica hasn't put out anything worth listening for me since 1998 Garage Inc. (and I'm cutting them some slack there already including the 1996 Load album)

The practice is not ancient. I am running a GeForce 6800 in such a manner. It came with 2 "units" disabled (4pp, 1vp each) and I enabled 1 unit with rivatuner and ran it like that since day 1. Enabling the second disabled unit would cause artifacts so that was out. I suspect similar things are possible on newer 8xxx cards etc..

Not that you should attempt to run a 10K drive inside a laptop in the first place, especially without that heatsink thingy. Wikipedia is so awesome that it has changed by web habits, and half replaced google for me already. When I need to learn about something, from political events to computer games, I find myself starting off with a wikipedia search BEFORE going to google. I usually follow by visiting the external links from the wiki page. Great for getting to the "official page" of whatever I am interested if there is one, without crappy ad spam sites filling up the google search. Not a true knowledge source? Depends what you mean by "true", but Wiki pages beat the regular web for me hands down when what I want is just the naked knowledge and not a whole web page full of "content". Wiki gives me a concise body of text, and a relevant picture most of the times, no ads, no marketing, and no aggressive pushing of any kind of text, image, video etc. When you use wikipedia, you feel in control, while with the commercial nature of the web, you feel like a customer.

These products were actually cheaper than their respective counterparts that had Windows bundled, so the savings are being passed on to the consumer. Looks better than the 500.000-1M dead Iraqis estimates. Sounds good to you? Iran acts as rationally as any other country (and certainly USA does not excel in this regard) in terms of defending her national interests in the power struggle world of international relations. No crack pot, no apocalypse is required to explain her behavior. The USA has demonstrated in Iraq that she is willing to dominate with force non-nuclear enemies. In the long run, one of them dominates the market and becomes such a monopoly, it's not a surprise outcome. Then you turn around and declare that to be illegal. You split the company up or write fines. Which leaves you not with the desired competitive atmosphere but a wounded monopoly, still a monopoly nevertheless. This goes on in every sector, until some catastrophic event like war or financial crisis. At which point you call in the state to fix everything up. You get state investments. And then, in the spirit of capitalism, the state will privatize these, because a free competitive market is better. Back to square 1. Repeat.
