Without proper planning, the world economy is going to tank, just think of 3.5 million (in the US alone) well paid truck drivers being unemployed and needing retraining.
Autonomous vehicles will bring the packages/mail into a certain range and depending on location a drone or bot will get out of the autonomous vehicles to do the final delivery. I can see moving forward where places will have drone/bot delivery slots for mail, packages and food deliveries.
Seems to have consistent well placed source ( Rene Ritchie), said "no", so no new display at WWDC.
BR> But I think at least one hardware announcement will sneak in.
Brings back memories of hand writing proofs in Adv Calc and Analytical Calc, getting 6 pages in and finding a mistake. 199.99999 TB written by hand and finding a mistake = bad year:-)
We should be teaching kids the very basics such as focus and concentration through meditation, then add on the ability to adapt and learn. We continue to try and "skate to where the puck is, instead of to where it's going to be" (stealing a line). And in order to go to where it's going to be we need a highly adaptable society with the ability to quickly learn as they may have have 4-6 careers in their lives.
Along with those very basic also teach reading, writing, math, logic, problem solving, art, music and phy ed, then as they get older use personality, aptitude and interest tests to develop more specific skills.
In 10-15 years coding "may" be a niche job as AI rises.
"even the worst Web hosting service provides automatic backups from where they could retrieve a clean version of their site.", sorry, but there are so many newbie developers building sites and cheap business owners that they don't enable backups or aren't willing to pay for it. There are plenty of sites with no backup!
To the grammar police who are often upset, I'd like to send you a big HUG and state "There, Their, they're" (fair use/archived/borrowed from karengibbs.com.au)
I wonder if the AWS business will actually lead Amazon to make a profit, I've read so much about how they never make a profit in the news, I seriously wonder if this could be the tipping point (product).
"Authorities have not yet identified the hacker behind the Panama Papers breach", well it was the CIA/NSA.
Look at the lack of US based names, so far there has been nothing but known criminals, on the other hand Russia, Pakistan, Iceland, UK have huge names outted.
"That inertia makes seeking new challenges difficult. " , that's ageism plain and simple, just like stating the african american can't learn as a fast as a white person is racism.
But the article also states "Presidents at research universities who are within the 75th percentile of pay are pulling in an average of $1.18 million, compared with $280,974 for presidents at four-year institutions focusing on the arts and sciences."
If you look a true corporations and compare them based on size, most mid to large companies give their CEOs salary, bonus and stock. With stock usually increasing their pay by a multiple (ones I've looked at are 4-7x).
I've heard from a number of older friends in Silicon Valley that once they pass 40 yrs old, they don't get callbacks for jobs.
(Now, yes, some have outdated skills, but when someone in there 30s with those same skills is getting jobs, something is broke.)
It appears companies are getting rid of higher paid worker and replacing with cheaper, younger works (sometimes overseas), to bring this into the light, all diversity reports from companies should include age of employees broken down.
I really do love having access to science by press release/news article, but we see hundreds if not thousands of them with no followup.
It's almost like hey, I did this, where's my grant.. Two years later we only hear the chirp of crickets.
Yes, I realize that science moves, yes, I realize that somethings don't pan out. But it seems like almost all don't work out?
Slysoft should release a new version that has a plug-in architecture.
- the new version (as sold) will only rip unprotected DVD/BDs
- 3rd parties (cough, cough) can distribute plug-ins that have the decryption functionality
Ideally those plug-ins will be open sourced and given freely on the web.
If this holds up and there is no comeback, look for Netflix DVD and Redbox revenue to dry up faster.
Let's face it streaming video is nice, but the studios frack it up with there contracts that cause content to disappear from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc.
It is the absolute worst customer experience to add something to your watch list only to find it gone when you go back to watch it.
There was a Russian scientist who claimed all cancers were caused by viruses, unfortunately I can't find the link on Ars and I'm lazy at this hour. But what if all cancers do come from a virus type that we don't have the ability to detect yet (and we aren't trying to)? It's fascinating to think about, but then look at AIDs, we've know the virus that causes it for decades and still can't cure it (although some will state it's a manageable illness now).
It's amazing to think about how small that game is and how one person wrote it. You look at a modern game and there are teams of designers, developers, writers, etc. I love technology.

Another brutal attempt at gun control >:-)
I'm hoping I'm wrong but every recent major acquisition by MS has been followed by a huge thud. But maybe MS will leave it as is and not screw it up.
Destruction leads to creation, that leads to the cycle beginning again... It will be fun to see where Apple goes in the future.
It's nice when you have made your fortune and you can say "Enough" and go start over wherever your passion is, but then life is relative.

It's fantastic that tech companies are fighting/discussing this in public, for too many years it been totally behind closed doors in secret meeting.

After weeks of getting "You are not allowed to use this resource." while trying to post or submit to slashdot, finally a fix....
Imagine an ad showing up in your eye while driving, nothing could go wrong here.
