That sounds like the overlay Windows 7 displays when things get delayed. It would be an improvement from the old system, but since you can't actually access the prompts (for example from Firefox), it is really annoying. Hereby I release for free: You should be able to give the focus to the software with a prompt by clicking its name.
(No, I don't really think I'm first to have thought of it.)
Also, the comparison is rather funny. He is basically complaining that it's not fair to compare Macs and PCs as the PCs are more powerful. (Although he qualifies this with size and noise...)
They had plenty of time, they just didn't make use of it.
I think they did. Considering that on my desktop I'm using a set of drivers that was released for my card in March 2009 when the support for my card ended. And I don't have problems with Aero nor the games that still run on my computer (tried some a bit newer things as well, but they were too old.
Of course, new hw architectures will bring new problems that may initially cause problems, but in general the drivers seem to have improved considerably.
Now if I only could find out why some flash games don't start on my Asus UL30VT. Which (relevantly) has horrible display driver support, and doesn't allow new drivers from NVidia to be installed. This, because there's also a Intel GPU.. Not yet sure if this is the last Asus or last NVidia I'm ever going to get. I needed modded drivers to get recent enough drivers to get CUDA working. Thanks to the modder, ASUS isn't helping much.
The data being moved is bits. If the same bits enter and leave in the same order using either cable the end result is the same. There's nothing you can check with double-blind. Or if you can find something you can cash a check for a million dollars from Randi.
You don't need double-blind tests for copying files to USB-stick either. (for example)
Yes, but teaching them that “x” represents an unknown will also help in teaching what “equals” means.
Now, when you get a value from pushing “=” you will have x + something instead of a empty space where the value from calculator could be filled in. And hopefully the teacher will at this point make a point about keeping both sides of the equation equal.
To a person with a proper understanding of “equals”... yes, it would be pretty clear.
Of course you need to understand what they are asking, but in my opinion the notation with x would be clearer. Then again, any notation is fine as long as it is explained properly. That said, using a notation that 'everybody' knows and can be used in the future anywhere would perhaps be preferable.
True. But if the problem had an x in it, then it would be clear(ish) that 9 equals x + 2. The notation here is completely counterintuitive.
I'm just reading "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman! - Adventures of a curious character" (Richard P. Feynman - a physicist) and it's surprisingly up to date with its criticism about the schoolbooks and science education. Although looks like some of the stuff he was criticizing Brazil about now applies to USA as well. The comments about the American school books are probably at least as relevant now as they were then.
The definition sounds awfully broad in other ways too. If we have North Korea on the 'Axis of evil' and thus clearly an 'Enemy', wouldn't for example aid programs provide 'Aid and Comfort' to them? Or are these terms defined somewhere more specifically?
Mine has both. Although attaching a laptop to the VGA-port (even with cable in between!) caused the laptop to hard reset both times I've tried it. (And nothing happened with another laptop.) DVI works without problems, so I'm happy.
I encountered some slowdowns a few point versions ago when I tested the Lightning Add-on, but I didn't have any problems with IMAP. (nor with thousands of emails, no idea what is a very large mailbox)
Note how this is kind of the same thing, but Blizzard's solution has some actual tact behind it...
And if he worked for Blizzard he probably would express his view differently. The Blizzard's solution doesn't fix the underlying problem (which will probably show up in some other game later).
Personally I think, that a lot of people have bought sc2 and haven't played anything resource hungry before on their laptops. A fair amount of laptops overheat even on tables, nevermind on something soft blocking the ventilation. Thus the breakdowns.

"The Software and/or source code cannot be copied in whole and sold without meaningful modification for a profit."
I guess (building and) selling the software doesn't count as a meaningful modification for a profit? ^.^

In that case the plan was to activate the camera if the laptop was reported stolen, not as a way to determine if it has been stolen.
"The patent application covers using the camera to take pictures of the unauthorized user"
Sounds pretty similar to me.

Those reviewers must be filthy rich...

The problem is, not all children think alike either.

I'd say that the message board with paws wins.

Wouldn't that be a one-time hit in performance?
FYI, "wizened" means "old" or "withered" or "shriveled". It is not in any way a synonym for "wisdom".
I thought that he said that on purpose...

Where I work, we call them "Spreadsheet Engineers". They are the perpetual bane of REAL engineers.
Sprengineers?
Don't worry, you won't notice the change.
There are plenty of stories about abusive cops. That isn't one.
In my country it woud be. YMMV.
Yep, you grew up, after how many centuries of years of constant warfare?
And Americans just popped into existence?
To the idiots defending the taliban
The thing is, none of the parents above defended taliban.
