I thought the difference was that you need only a 'death touch' with iPhone 4 as you are shorting the antenna and "death grip" for the others to cause similar (but less severe) effect to the others. (What happens if you short the antenna and death grip it?)
Thank you for the sarcasm, but I don't think you quite got my point. (Or perhaps I expressed it badly.) The 24" is otherwise so outstanding that the effects of the matte coating are quite noticeable. The colours, except for the matte effect, are very good. I have a smaller (and older) matte as well, and the effect can be seen on that too.
I'm rather sensitive for it, as it looks a bit like using dirty eyeglasses, which causes me headache. Although, being more stable effect the matte is not nearly as bad.
Well. I have two matte screens and one glossy (laptop) on my desk right now, and the advantage of the glossy screen is that I can actually have pure white (or blue, or...) on it.
The advantages of glossy screen is: Cleaner colours
The disadvantages of glossy screen are: You see your curtains or whatever as a faded image on it and when it gets dusty it's more noticeable.
If you look closely you can notice glare on matte screens as well. Move your head and notice how the millions of small matte-reflections change. Annoying. However, I guess I would still pick matte for working...
I can't stand going back to matte as it looks like the whole screen is dirty.
I can't understand this. Every Desktop LCD I've ever used is matte and it doesn't look dirty. Why should this apply to laptops?
I certainly can. I bough HP ZR24w and it's great monitor if you can stand the matte[*]. (Which is probably most of you...) I'm now mostly gotten used to it, but it still sometimes annoys me that uniform colours aren't 'clean'. White isn't white, it's distorted by the matte coating to countless small batches of various shades of white. (The average, I'm sure, is pure white)
Glossy certainly has its own problems. I wonder it we could get some very very slight matte coating to reduce the reflections...
[*] I knew it's just the matte, but on the first day I just had to try to clean a corner of it, as I was thinking that please, please be dirty...
Someone in another discussion here recommended Tree Style Tab[s] addon for firefox. It's not perfect, but it is pretty great, especially on widescreen monitor. I hope it will keep getting updated.
If you're interested in developing for it I would probably wait for phones that support QT. I have understood (or misunderstood) that some should be released fairly soon. (Or are there Symbian QT-phones out yet?)
At the moment, I'm using a cheap non touch S40 phone and I'm quite happy with it. (I mean, it's a phone and it works:D Surprisingly this includes tethering through bluetooth and basic email. Not much point in developing anything for it though.) With QT it should be possible to target both Symbian and Meego without too much trouble, which should be a lot more rewarding.
Why develop serious applications for something that's only supported by a single manufacturer these days.
Right. Go see Symbian Foundation and click devices, then select year 2010 and apply. Which one of them is the single manufacturer that supports this open source platform?
I'm pretty sure that this wasn't exactly what they planned. And yet, I'm fairly confident that they set out to do as much damage as they could and managed to make us create as much damage to ourselves than they ever dreamed about causing.
I've had a couple of Nokia's phones and one Sony-Ericsson's and the only times I've had dropped calls were on trains in forests. (and this a few years ago.) I've never had a situation where a call was dropped and there was signal. Apparently this is something that happens in States? Or do we have here Europeans who have this problem?
Its covered in the linked articles.
Short answer: avoidance of radiation to the brain.
Could you post a link? I wonder how well that works, as if the antenna is covered, the phone would need to up the signal strength and the radiation level would probably stay the same? Unless the hand also becomes a part of the antenna ^.^
That sequence *is* actually common sense, but for everyone independently: the lawyer wants billable work, the manager wants to get ahead by impressing their higher-ups, and Smith isn't really getting paid enough to object strongly.
Extrapolate to millions of people and you get Corporate America.
Or perhaps Mr. Smith is afraid he will stop getting paid for his job... But yeah, (very very) common sense for the win.
I don't know. It depends so much on the specific model. I had an excellent inkjet from HP years ago, then very crappy one from Canon, which is why I bought my current one from HP again. The drivers are at best mediocre, but the Wlan printing (and scanning) works rather well.
If you print more than a few pages a month, you should make sure that you get a model that has XL-sized ink cartons available. (Or get a laser)
It's not really my cup of tea either, but I decided to watch a few matches anyway. Ended up reading a book for one and a half, but managed to enjoy the N-Korea's match. This, because of several reasons.
First of all I felt sorry for the players of N-Korea[*] (although this was lessened as the commentator told that a couple of them play abroad). Second, I wanted Brazil to win[*], but not by much (and I was quite happy with the result). Third, the N-Korean players were sympathetic and even chivalrous compared to Brazilian players.
And perhaps most importantly, I learned to see what's happening. Mistakes made, lost and used possibilities, the skills of the teams. All this made it enjoyable.
Will I keep watching football? Not really. But perhaps a match or two from these games, and perhaps again in the next world cup.
But perhaps in your view I'm strange, considering that I've also enjoyed watching someone coding (very efficiently).
However, those horns get dangerously close to: "Hooligans brutally assault innocent people without provocation." There's a comment somewhere above about new mouthpieces that reduce the noice, but I wonder how much it helps, if the stadium is full of them...
Yeah. There is not way to get enjoyment from watching professionals at work. Football, chess, just name it. Not even if you've dabbled in it yourself. Not even if you're watching it with your friends. Meh.
It can't get much more boring than watching incredibly talented people doing their stuff.
Actually, they didn't claim it was 'new', except for the fact that the glass back was new. It's the same glass they've been using since the first gen iPhone, but with the oleophobic coating (front and back).
From Engatget's coverage:
11:50AM "We developed a glass that's 30 times harder than plastic."
Used on skype lots, not used on the network because they seriously rip you off for it, 10p per minute for regular calls, 50p for video, and thats not changed since it first came out 5+ years ago. Also not included in contract minutes
I have a workmate who makes Skype calls with N900. But definitely not often...
I don't see myself using video calls in everyday situations for now no matter what phone. But perhaps they do get more common if Apple manages to push them through.
From Finnish point of view this whole addressing thing is really interesting (and strange). I'd pretty much call people with their titles only if I don't know their names. Well, I might keep calling our president Mrs president until she says otherwise (if I met her).
I think most people prefer to be called by their names. I don't really know that many medical doctors, but the judges I know prefer their names. Well, outside of the court, obviously.
In fact there are a few jokes about sticking to the titles: After an accident - Elderly lady: "Oh no, the engineer got buried in snow." Her neighbour, mumbling under a pile of snow: "...Master of Science"
Right. I'm paying 9,90€ a month for my data plan, which includes a second sim (and 3G usb stick). I got the slowest (384) and cheapest one, which may have been a mistake, as a bit more throughput would be nice. Nevertheless, I've apparently transmitted 15GB last month (and no, I didn't torrent anything). I think normally I would transmit about 2-4 GB, but last month I had to depend on mobile data a lot.
The 2GB limit sounds pretty awful, considering.
As a side note, my old 2G (Nokia) mobile phone seems to offer more stable network than the new 3G modem. The most annoying part is that the phone connects to the network in 3 seconds (even after reboot), but the 3G (Huawei) modem takes about 1 minute, if it connects at all. Updating the firmware didn't help. I think the problem may be in the connection software, but haven't found a good alternative.

NWN was indeed very nice, but I loved the side quests of BG2. "Hey, what happened to my party member?" (again)

Both are dead ends.

Yeah, they have the word 'British' in there name, guess how much Britain has over the company? almost zero.
Even better, they don't have 'British' in their name. Not after their merger with Amoco.
And it's not like the lawyers didn't know it is stupid. This was probably the most fun they had all year.
Oh yes, they probably smiled all the way [...]

Yes, HP printers were good once. But the ones you can buy now are NOT (Lasers included)
Umm, can you tell me what is wrong with my printer (other than it being HP)?
