Hi! Pakistani here, here to explain why we hate the West. 1-You support every freaking military dictator general that pops up. Can't you be honest and NOT support them (for once!) and show that you actually support democracy? 2-You ate the F-16 money, and didn't even give us the F-16, and then gave a few long after they were the top stuff 3-You were bound to help us, you signed a freaking treaty with us(many in fact, SEATO, CENTO, Baghdad pact etc), its not that we put a gun on your head and told you to... 4-The whole Afghan war thing...you poured a lot of money in to Afghanistan without accountability, and left us with filthy rich Taliban and opium warlords, and now we have whole bunch of crazy AK-47 wielding drug-pushers loose all over the country, burning schools and blowing up innocent people. 5-Oh yeah, and the whole colonization thing, 60 years is too little to forget that... 6-Many other tiny things, like unfair tariff on our exports, too many high intesert loans, and not enough aid, weird sanctions, stuff like that. These are some of the "non-religion" based grievances we have with the west. Not all of them are totally your fault, however, you majorly facilitated them, or stayed silent despite the need for you input. And we hate you all the more, because we don't have a say in our govt, but you do, and yet your policies are strange! Add the religious factor, and then yes, there many people who wish you to burn in hell. But there wouldn't be so many people, if those non-religious factors weren't there to begin with.

But the Palestinians actually selected the Hamas, on (get this) LOCAL ISSUES! Yes, hard as it may seem to believe, but they selected them on the basis of their various welfare plans (like free Hospitals and stuff), and because Arafat's Party (Al-Fatah) was corrupt. The fact that the Hamas is a Jihadist oragination is of secondary importance to the Palestinians.(heck, even the Fatah party are Jihadist! You folks know that very well...) The people selected them because of their agendas, that suited the people, and because the other folk were corrupt and wasting their tax-money. Isn't that what people in Democracies do? Do you want them to vote for a Party that had grown fat on the people's hard earned money? Because the Hamas would still have been fighting the Israelis, no matter whether they were in power or not. So don't blame (and punish) them for voting in a party that suited them, that would best serve them, that was the lesser of the two evils. You wouldn't like to be told who to vote for, would you?

Seriously, the parent poster make a very good suggestion, with all the gadget churning industries sprouting up all over the east, learning their language is a very good idea, and being an engineer and all, would broaden your demand. Plus, knowing an extra language is always a great attention catcher in a CV, (except in the case of, say Spanish, which is know by just too many people in the US to still carry a charm) I would strongly recommend Korean, because it has, unlike Chinese or Japanese, a proper set of alphabets (28 i think) and is therefore (relatively) easier to learn for english speakers...Chinese and Japanese are difficult and much more demanding... and Hindi, well since the Indians themselve are quite fluent in english, the need of learning the local won't be necessary (and no, don't waste your braincells on klingon ;-) ) Also, culture wise, The Koreans (South-Koreans, that is) are quite receptive to foreigners, or so I have heard
