Hi, I have too much time on my hands and, instead of actually solving the problems in front of me, I want to pick the wrong battle with the wrong people and take on the software approval process. It won't affect the company I work for in any way thus making it a completely pointless waste of time, but I just can't help pushing my nose where it doesn't belong. Any suggestions?
Your best hope is that there's a real programmer there to mentor you. The programmers that arrive at my shop, 1 in 3 can be mentored, and the rest are a waste of a seat. 1 in 10 can actually write usable code out of the chute.
Neither choice will kill your career. Go with what seems to fit best with how you work, challenge yourself for four years, and if you have talent I guarantee you'll come out ok.
