I use vmware.I'm a web developer and I spend a lot of time testing my pages in different browsers. I used to have a bunch of machines with different configs. win95/3.x browsers, win98 4.0 browsers, soon win2k/5.0 browsers, and a 3.1 machine with others. Now, I have two machines linux with 3 vmware 'windows' an a native Win box. (drivers are not the same for color checking in vmware). I love the fact that I can test different browsers on one machine. Besides the virtual networking is really cool.
I have been using a UMSDOS mini version of Slackware for 2 years, in the c:\linux directory of my Windows laptop. I use my laptop for (coding) work and web demo's. I use a version because it has a small footprint. What do you think about the UMSDOS version's of LINUX and the many slackware spinoffs (mostly mini-distro's)? Do you plan to release a _smaller_ (mini) version of bigslack(zipslack with X)?
I own a couple of.com's. I also own the.org and.net of each one. (internet politics see OpenSSH article ). This is about US$35.00 each or US$105.00 per year for a domain name. Now I'm going to have to buy more TLD's to avoid cybersquatters?

Just look at what apple's marketing strategy. Get the kids to use Apple's in the school and then when the kids grow up they will use Apples. In the same vein, I use vi because that is the editor I learned first and now I don't want to change. Humans are creatures of habit. They will imprint on the first thing that comes along.
The only way to have a true internet tax is to tax the shipping, the same way the only consuption tax for oil is on gasoline. Here in California there is $0.40 added for state tax for each gallon. The same idea will be used for internet sales.
Yes, I love puzzles. You could mix then up. Chess, physics, logic, then some code perl, c. You could even have a contest for the best submitted puzzle.
I WILL NOT download and install any binaries on my system! I will only install programs I compile from the source.
Think about it, what if the DDoS daemon sniffer has a trojan? What if the FBI is behind the DDoS attacks? It would be a perfect reason to distribute a hacker sniffer.
[disclaimer] I don't think that the FBI is intentionally running a DDoS attack. And I don't think the FBI has malicious trojans in their software. [end disclaimer]
The lawyers can't attack what they can't find. Once the source is out in the open, everyone will know what it is. If you only want to open this topic to the community, stay hidden. If you want fame and glory, well then it is up to you. You can send me (and a few hundred others) the source so we can publish it. like the DeCSS source. (which I have now published, from the public record)
Just because DeCSS is a windows program does not make the fight any less valid. This case is not about DVD encryption security, but about regulation of freedom.
Hear me out...
A key to this whole case (from the DVD side) is that you had to have reverse-engineered their software in order to break the encryption. This is not true. (though it would be easier). The method of attacking a problem is to use the tools available to the problem solver. These tools are what's at stake. This hack would have been more difficult without brute force tools and languages like perl.
The lessons are already incorporated in a number of projects, but that is mute if you take away the ability to use tools or scripts!
If I take this argument to it's conclusion (if the DVD industry has it's way) I would be banned from using any other method to view or playback their DVD discs. I don't care if their software is the best, I want the freedom to try and fail and try again. Let DeCSS die but don't take my tools!
The main reason I migrated to LINUX was for X. I like the idea of a x-Server/WM/desktop independant of the OS. Not that the other GUI's are bad. Just poorly implemented.

Where are the TLD police?
Can't they troll the internet for misused TLD's?

I would love a logic puzzle on a regular basis.
Here is my actual billing for last week.
These hours do NOT include driving time, cell phone calls, paperwork (billing).
I have averaged 62.3 hours billed per week since October, 1999.
Note: to all you budding programmers, I carry more than one contract at a time.
