Hahahaha this is rich! Yeah just leave out x86 emulation, because the crushing overhead of emulating a spreadsheet app will kill the poor widdle battery! That's thinking ahead. I'm sure Windows will do fine without legacy compatibility, who buys Windows for that right? But no big deal, all-new ARM apps can be developed for Windows, easy peasy.
I knew a closed-source multi-arch OS would be good for some lols! Even Apple had the common sense to include transparent emulation to maintain backwards compatibility the few times they changed architectures.
Multi-arch is only really doable on an open-source OS with open-source apps, where everything can be recompiled for whatever you want to run on.
Prediction: Atom tablets are going to become a lot more popular around the launch of Win8. Makes you wonder what's going on behind closed doors between MS and Intel...
To be fair the idea is that the private screeners will have a vested interest in getting passengers through quickly (since they'll be paid for by airlines/airports) and will have no financial interest in tighter security (which is good, since nothing implemented post-9/11 has helped, so it's plenty tight enough.)
We have some good firewalls that are capable of doing basic filtering by 'category,' e.g. P2P sites,
Sounds like he's using one of those awful fucking hellspawned Watchguard boxes. The P2P filter blocks harmless P2P news sites and forums while allowing torrents and other P2P programs to operate unhindered. Block "Downloads" for extra fun, then your employees won't be able to browse public domain clip art sites and your IT guys won't be able to access Sourceforge.
It's theoretically possible (although it would be a lightweight and minimalistic desktop OS) but I doubt Microsoft can pull it off.
Still, it doesn't make any sense. They want to compete with tablets so they turn their desktop OS into a tablet OS? WTF? It's like Ford turning their line of commercial trucks & pickups into trendy subcompacts to compete with Smart. The farmers and fleet managers are going to be left scratching their heads.
Wouldn't it be possible to set up a local BOINC cluster connected directly to the BOINC job server to do the bulk of the work, and then optionally allow outside volunteers to help? Then you could take a "help or GTFO" attitude to volunteers. Worst case scenario, you're down to your local cluster (which could include all the desktop PCs in the labs as some have suggested.)
Maybe that's the plan. Form an ice ring around the earth by building on satellite orbits, and then the solar winds will blow cool...space wind at the planet. Just like the old ice in front of a fan trick!
I second that Greenpeace ratings shouldn't be trusted. One year they gave Nintendo the lowest rating because they didn't answer Greenpeace's survey (and once again, I am not a Nintendo fanboy, and would not buy any of their modern consoles or handhelds).
Yeah you know they're going to have to add more codes anyways. They're not thinking ahead. Let me contribute some more:
Injured by industrial robot Injured by robotic pet Injured by sex robot Amputation due to portal failure Broken bones due to faulty fall impact absorbers Jetpack crash Flying car crash Electric rollerblade crash
Makes me feel like an idiot for not applying to a job working on a small cluster used for climate research. I didn't apply because I didn't have any HPC knowledge.
If I knew I could get hired without knowing shit I would've given it a shot!
OSX has changed architectures back and forth, and had planned and designed for architecture changes from early on. Even so they still rely on emulation, and have the convenience of choosing their own hardware.
Legacy compatibility is Microsoft's bread and butter, but in typical Microsoft fashion, they haven't planned for shit. The most they can do is add automatic x86 emulation and cross their fingers. Drivers are going to be a clusterfuck.
...of these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane?

To a geek that's no worse than waiving your right to hold dinosaur fights.

I think they're using the same AI that writes up spam comments to do their articles.

Wow, they're at 2 Es out of 3 already...
...Or they could go fuck themselves and I could use a free codec.
Whoa you know what I just thought of?
The bike from Snow Crash.
Just need the wheels now...

Finally, through the use of a hybrid regenerative powertrain, it might be possible to make Harleys as fast as other motorcycles! :-P
Or a T-ONE MILLION! That's gonna POKE YOUR EYES OUT!

My current phone was made in South Korea B-)
Last two were made in Canada IIRC.

Am I the only one who was immediately reminded of the hospital's "front desk control panel" in Idiocracy?
I have a relative in Ontario dying of cancer right now who might be willing to give it a shot.
Anyone in the field know if these guys can test on willing terminal patients? She's been given a year to live max.
Yeah it's available DRM-free from other places (direct2drive was one) so I'd assume buying direct from the developer is DRM-free as well.
Haha let them think that...
PH34R TEH CYBER POLICE BACKTRACE!
I've been considering buying it. It's a reasonable $10 and doesn't seem to have any DRM (although it doesn't explicitly say it's DRM-free).
Anyone know if this game has any DRM?

And how often is it run on anything but x86/64 outside of the server room?
