Who had any trouble finishing Borderlands? I mean, I like the game in a way, the landscape and general setting is interesting, but it is really incredibly infuriating the way every challenge you face (even if it is a mission rated 2 or 3 levels above you) is just stupidly easy. First of all, you generally have found some ueber-weapon and ueber-shield an hour earlier and everything from then on is down with one or two shots, until you find the next ueber-weapon and ueber-shield. And if you actually happened to die (generally against a boss... normal foes are just there to fill the landscape), then you'll respawn a couple of meters away, right beside an ammo vending machine probably, and your foe won't even have regenerated. Where's the fun in that?
Modern games ~attitude~ toward gamers often reminds me of over-protective spoiling parents.
I didn't read TFA (of course), but here are two examples of a game serie getting measurably easier to try to lure more players to them.
Bethesda games. Instead of each mob having a fixed level (or at least a fixed level range), their level is always relative to the player's. The difficulty becomes constant. And with instant travel the player doesn't even have to actually play the game. There is absolutely no difficulty (unless you increase the difficulty level yourself) and seriously no reasons to do what the games (speaking Oblivion and Fallout3 here) are about, which is discovering sidequests and generally exploring.
The latest Prince of Persia (can't even remember the name). You can't die. You can't even fall of a cliff. Miracle Escape everytime. It does indeed removes the ~hassle~ to save the game yourself. It also removes any difficulty the actual gameplay might present to the player. You're not as much playing as clicking on a button to see the rest of the movie. It's barely better than the VCD games from the 90s. Personally, in immersive games (read "modded to oblivion Oblivion") I often find myself dying and then remembering that I just played for an hour without saving. Painfull it is, but on the other hand, the virtual dangers were actually ~dangerous~ (abeit in a virtual way). With most of the "we won't let you die" game mechanism lately, it just makes the games unbearably *EASY*. Just to prove my point further : think about Portal. What if you had no chance of falling into the fire, but were instead saved by a deus ex machinae? sounds pretty boring, no?
As a european with many pre-conceived ideas about the USA, wouldn't it be "Satan-driven racially-challenged-african-american Marxist"? Isn't the rest completely un-PC?
Okay. I guess I misunderstood GGP. I read it as GDocs had nothing to do with all the previous thing and was just this side thing they did because, basically, they can.
automated data collection, mining, and reporting, OTOH, is neat... hence Google kinda focuses on those things and sort of runs GDocs as a sideshow).
I WISH I would be just aiming at "+1 Funny", but what makes you think automated data collection, mining and reporting isn't what Google Docs is all about?
well... considering that Miguel de Icaza has been in secret talks with Palpat^WSteve Jobs to make Gnome so hard to customize that people won't see why they should use it instead of just buying a mac, it's just being fair to both sides.
Just a thought, but could it be that Wikileaks never received any classified informations about it? I'm sure they would be happy to release them if you have anything that can be verified to an extent.
Those "why don't they have something about..." commententors seem to be oblivious of the fact that leaks don't appear out of thin air.
Only the singer is synthetic. The band itself looks pretty real to me. Basically, it's like Miley Cyrus, just that it's a bit more honest about autotuning the vocals.
To be fair, it's a love poem to Jobs' ability to sell stuff by making people believe it will improve their lifestyle. I particularly loved the comparison between Apple and Pepsi. The short version of the interview is "Apple products sell because Jobs is a master at making things look good" (as opposed to "having a technically better product")
not everyone can wear contact lenses, or get laser therapy. I was in the first group, but luckily my retina was thick enough for laser.Expensive like hell, but way more comfortable than glasses or contacts.
or worse, they take their kids to see a movie, which happens to be only running in 3D, and the kids just refuse to wear the glasses and have to watch 2 hours of blurriness, for which their parents paid premium prices.
You really should lay off the white powder, it's not good for your heart... or your brain.
yes. As has been said by quite a few people in other comments, the major point of the Blender Foundation's Open Movies is to improve the software. The resulting movies are good publicity, but they are mostly a by-product. You're not happy with that, then nobody forces you to use the software. Just don't forget to actually pay for the ~consistent, easy to use~ software you're using (incidentally, if it's a spellchecker, then I would suggest getting a new one).
I also seriously hope you are not using Firefox or Opera right now, or even some open source chrome plugin. Wouldn't want you to be caught using Free Open Source Software in the public after all. Similarly, you might want to avoid the majority of websites. They are running on low quality open source server software. It's really nasty!
Somehow, I guess "a bunch of amateur programmer" are a whole bunch more efficient than you at using a compootehr, no matter whether they are using gcc, editing stuff with Vim or Emacs, or just linux admins who happen to program in their free time using, for example, php or python.
Actually, if the storyline was so evident based on your experiene with Hollywood movies, you would have expected Sintel to turn to a dragon, or Scale to turn into a (male! Can't have no same sex thingy going on in a kid's movie after all!) human, and then they marry (in church... don't want to offend the religious masses) and live happily ever after, except for the guy she supposedly killed at the beginning who is seen recovering from his not-so-deadly wound, in order to setup the sequel(s). Oh... and either Celine Dion or Sting would have sung the credits' song
It was painfully obvious that it was Scales she was battling with (the scar thing really was a bit heavy handed)... but it wasn't obvious at all that it ends as tragedy
Martinique, the carribean island I live on comes pretty close to that. Dense rain forest to the north, gradually turning into rather arid terrain only 50km or so away. Granted : there is no snow nor dragons around here.
You do realize that the point of the Open Movies isn't just to show off Blender's capabilities, but to actually improve it, right? Elefant Dreams, Big Buck Bunny and now now Sintel all resulted in a better Blender.
Are these modifications replacing original files or just adding new ones? As far as I know, Steam checks the integrity of the files and ~correct~ any errors, which means modifications which replace original files would get removed.
to add a third I just thought of :

My apologies for the misunderstanding.
the kitten part is probably right on ... I can already picture the "Animated Hello Kitty" tattoos.

well ... they could go for bear names instead. SOOOOO much better ... you know : Polar, Grizzly, Teddy, Tiger ...
That's what THIS guy used to say :P
No mention of Uzbl, the command line operated browser?

I don't know the show, but it still didn't go Wooosh
Oh come on .. they probably had to hire a few developpers just to write the filter to ADD that ;)

I tried to find a suitably snarky retort, but then I realize you were right and had to get drunk to forget this tragic reality:P

in Short : you're a moron
beside Gimp, myPaint and Inkscape can both handle JPEGs (not sure about GIF), albeit they don't have similar purpose.
To be fair, no amount of CGI could have saved "Blair Witch". No need to picture it, just try to sit through "Cloverfield".
