    AJAX relies on JavaScript. Between 7% and 10% of web users have JavaScript turned off either implicitly or due to their IE security level

    That's got to be the most made-up stat I've seen in a long while. The actual number is much closer to .0001%

    That's such a dumb response. Defacing websites is not exercise one's right to freedom of speech. Setting up your own websites is. Access to media is not zero-sum.

    Huh? The point was that freedom of speech is not nearly as sacred to you as mohammad is to a muslim. It's kind of sacred to you but you take it for granted mostly and you certainly wouldn't kill for it or engage in any other extreme acts.

    That's such a dumb response too. (a) The cartoons were published in newspapers all over the world, including my country. (b) Muslims protested violently and burned embassies etc. all over the world, including my country.

    It not even a free speech issue at this point, just newspapers irresponsibly cashing in on controversy.

    If that were true you would be defacing muslim websites right now.

    It's such a crucial part of the very foundation of our culture.

    Also, fair use says that companies that profit off of other's copyrighted work, and especially companies who diminish the profits of the copyright holders, is unlikely to have a judge rule in their favor.

    I don't know about the second part but the first part applies to every search engine on the web and can't possible be accurate.

    Please check your pants size before modding anything flamebait in this thread. Look, the problem is not that we bully fat people in the US because we don't. You can be 200 lbs overweight and nobody will ever call you fat to your face outside of high school. If somebody has a drinking problem or a gambling problem hopefully he's got people who care about him who will give him a reality check. But for overeaters we keep quiet even if it's someone we care about because we don't want to be mean. The solution to obesity is obvious. Eat less and get more exercise. If you think it's more complicated than that you're in denial.

    Quick question: Did you feel sorry for the major Type A personality business person who ended up in the hospital due to a severe ulcer? Was it their fault they got one from working too hard and being too stressed?

    Sure because there's a big difference between the cures. On the one hand you've got to make some life altering changes like switching careers, and regulating the amount of pie you put into your pie hole just doesn't seem so drastic in comparison.

    There are people who are suicidal over their weight, and willing to endure painful, dangerous, ill-advised medical procedures to correct it.

    Sorry I'm not going to start feeling sorry for a condition where the solution is as simple as 'put down the sandwich.' There's too many people with real problems.

    The problems I have with Php go way beyond sloppy code. I'm sticking with RoR from now on, and most of the smart web developers are with me. I don't care if the dummies want to stick w/ php, that's what dummies do.

    For me it's all about will I be able to build my tarballs without jumping through a million hoops. Other than that all distros are the same to me. Not really sure how Debian stacks up against RH enterprise in this but I know that oracle 10g won't even go on Debian so right off the bat they lose being my db server, and why not keep everything simple by using the same distro for everything I do?

    That's interesting. the thing I took away from that recipe tutorial was being impressed with how hard it was to make a non-elegant rails app. Definitely a good exercise for new coders IMHO.

    I dunno, I just bought a cube last month. there's a lot of cheap-ass games for it that are fun as hell. if they had a must-have title for ps2 (gotham racing3?) they might get my $100 before microsoft sees my $400. Plus there's a lot of rpg's that I wouldn't mind playing on ps2 (never owned one). Sure graphics are choppier but gameplay is king. everyone knows this.

    It's still a concern. You still have to ask a grieving family if it's ok to put their dead loved one's face on someone else's head. If you can't see an emotional impact there, you might need to check yourself for a pulse.

    Why does some old fart always have to complain about compatibility? If you're using a browser that doesn't do javascript, you're probably used to disappointment. And I can understand how that can make you bitter. But still.
