Poorly written because it defaults to HTTP? I disagree. Programmers like myself avoid using HTTP for delivering things that simply don't need to be encrypted. Why? Because it's more resource intensive on both the server and the client. We use the optimal solution - HTTP.
I think it actually had merit, but only because there is precedent with the phone. If you are an average government employee (not a classified position, let's exclude those for this argument), and you use their land line telephone to call home, are you entitled to privacy? It's a legit argument, but the supreme court ruled "use your own" and that's that.
Thank You! JFC I was searching for some ray of hope here and you posted it. The idea that we need to use more energy so we can save energy is backwards. Using your brain is what's needed. That old chestnut. Don't leave the TV on, turn off lights, turn down the heat/ac just a little. Seal your windows. Insulate your house better. These things have been around for ages and they don't need any more energy than a cheeseburger can supply.
For years I rode my bike to work 5 miles. People asked me if I was being green. Green? No. Cheap yes. Human power comes free with my meals and has the added benefit of keeping me fit. It's win-win!
I think that comes down to price point. I'm of the belief that they cannot out a BR drive in and still make any money, which is slim as it is. Sony can use their own manufacturing line and produce Blu-Ray drives themselves. That's my theory anyway.
Honestly if the 360 had a Blu-Ray drive I doubt I'd have considered the PS3. I ended up with both machines but I could slim down to one easily given not many titles are platform-exclusive anymore.
You really do touch on something important. Energy powers the war machine. For instance, the US strategic energy reserve is for a massive war, not to heat homes in the winter. The current US doctrine is centered around ensuring access to energy resources. The two are linked, they are inseparable. An Army may run on it's stomach but fighter jets fly on fossil fuel. Alternative energy is the key to getting everyone to be better global citizens. Resource wars are a very real thing.
Use your brain to find truth, not statistics some one fed you. How can you claim to be a critical thinker if you've blindly disqualified a source of information because it's biased? All news is biased.
Is there something wrong with the article? If not it's a valid point. Or are we only supposed to discuss things from 2010 appearing on Huffington Post?
Any chance to expose the pillaging of Africa is a good thing IMHO. Such a tragedy, does anyone care? Not many where I live. Now I know that not everyone can account for what happens on the other side of the world, but I mention the Niger Delta, the DRC, the current state of Somalia and their civil war, Sudan, Egypt's relationship with Israel, anything from Africa.. and watch the eyes glaze over. I usually just take it as a chance to tell someone, an opportunity. If we ever want to be a truly global community then we need to know what is going on in that community. Heads in the sand cause future conflict.
I'll freely admit that although the technology is there to fly autonomously, or even remotely, I don't think it's ready for prime time at all. This study is just the tip of the topic, they need this in order to allow corporate experimentation while under regulations.
I wouldn't fear a drastic change. If I know anything about the FAA I know they are slow. They are so risk averse that if the plan isn't solid they will certainly shy away from it. Safety and the related accountability is their main concern, with promoting aviation a close second.
Me personally? I hope they make it a law for a pilot to be in the cockpit even if only to babysit. I'm working towards a career in aviation as a pilot during my downtime.
I think this will also help ease the traditional pilot's mind, if someone has to supervise the computer well then who better than an experienced pilot? Except now he can fly 3-4 aircraft at once from the ground. It's not as exciting I'll admit, flying is damn fun to some of us, but the bottom line is cost.
1. They are not talking about autonomous UAVs. These UAVs are essentially remote-controlled aircraft piloted by real pilots. I think some people assume these things think for themselves but that's not the case. Now that doesn't automatically discount concerns of safety, but "skynet" is not the case here.
2. This is not specifically for military only. Many uses for UAVs exist outside of military applications such as basic transport. Of course they'll use them for surveillance, but they already do that with aircraft. UAVs can simply linger longer because one pilot can take over during flight. Similar to how large aircraft do it now with redundant crew members.
It's not any worse than using the keyboard to fudge the system. It's not like you are editing config files directly in a terminal. Most BIOS software simply let you navigate a static menu so using a mouse doesn't really hurt anything.
This doesn't do away with technical details and replace them with a happy face. The big change is how it handles the processor on boot compared to BIOS, device specifics such as AT, and addressable memory. A nice touch is the security features of the latest spec which give it crypto and network auth.
Refute can also means to argue against the truth or correctness of something, not always proving it's erroneous. In other words, like most English words it has multiple meanings. I do see your point though. It's a strong word.
Don't think about this topic at all! You may be exposing yourself to risk. As your counsel I advise you to not question me on these matters because that may expose you to even greater risk!
I was mainly just thinking of a kid's motivation. For me it was all about girls. Even with all my geekiness I still wanted to be the most wanted guy on campus as far as women were concerned. I was never into sports, completely anti-social was the best way to describe me then. Seems not much has changed.
This is a refreshing article. We usually don't see comparisons of The World versus America, showing our weaknesses. Thank the maker someone took the time to finally come out and say something about our lack of spelling bee champs.

I'm a bit dismayed that you didn't see this coming.
I think that comes down to price point. I'm of the belief that they cannot out a BR drive in and still make any money, which is slim as it is. Sony can use their own manufacturing line and produce Blu-Ray drives themselves. That's my theory anyway.

JFC, how am I offtopic _this_ time? The summary posted an article about the Niger Delta.

Speak for yourself. I get more pussy than an animal shelter. I'm humble too!
As your counsel I advise you to buy velum made from whale penis.

A few important points about this:

I wonder what the billboards for the local strip clubs will smell like.
Like meat also.
Here's the Intel one I've been using for some info, since it's basically their standard, created for the Itanium: http://download.intel.com/technology/efi/SF09_EFIS001_UEFI_PI_TCG_White_Paper.pdf
HW Manufacturers will require EFI firmware to be signed in order to install it. See "executable verification" in this PDF

Spelling bee champs don't go home with the prom queen. The pitcher on the baseball team does.
