would be that bright people aren't choosing to work for the government because of the sinister ways in which the current government might (will) use their technology.
The men who founded this country would've nipped this nonsense in the bud long ago. But if they arrived here today and had nowhere else to go, I suspect things would get nasty fast.
I used this idea some time ago and found it quite fun. I always liked playing MMOs so I went about looking for one in the language I was learning. I found one and while it was not geared for learning the language but for native speakers I still learned a bit.
Take this article as an example of the many resources the internet provides for learning a new language. Sure it's quite easy for an native English speaker to take up teaching in Asia but there are teaching websites, TV shows, movies, games, music, and thousands of people willing to language exchange with you right at your fingertips.
If everyone in America knew what was happening there would be a hue and a cry to do something about it, just like with health care or gas prices.
This should be modded +5 Funny.
Regardless of the information available, Americans gladly take the shaft nowadays and haven't the meddle to do anything about it.
Our government is out of control, we lose a few freedoms a day, our medical care is garbage, and of course gas prices, etc, etc. And yet we can't pry ourselves away from our 27 tv shows we watch a week or the video games we play 40 hours a week to get active and do anything about it.
We've been turned into puppies content to stupidly run around pleasuring ourselves.
Can you imagine where we'd be had the signers of the DoI had Tivos and 300 channels to choose from? Britain...

PS Sorry for the outburst...my Tivo crashed last night. Damn it!
By RTA or even just reading the quote alone it's obvious that there should be a "or not" at the end of the title.
The creativity effect only happens when the game brings certain people to certain ranges of the two variables they measured. It isn't some universal magic result that occurs just by playing the game.

Since when are passionate, innovative, groundbreaking, hard-working, geniuses considered geeks?
It shouldn't but it does surprise me the way that people claim some title as their own and then figure out ways to make themselves feel better by including other things and people within it.
I can tell you that one all too common *symptom* of being a geek is a big ego and delusions of grandeur.
I'm quite certain that those men you listed were far, far less concerned with what word people called them than they were with their quests. Now, that idea seems distinctly UN-geeky to me.
This is no different than the insecure chick thinking she'll have a better life by pumping her breasts up with silicon.
Just keep on payin them folks that are happy to sell you crap that'll make you better at your jobs. Hints of "breeding the big and strong ones" in all this.
This guy should more fully embrace his "differences" and move forward rather than aspiring to compete with normal humans.
That said, it's time for the new era of Altered Olympics.
Unrestricted use of technology, implants, body mods, anything goes!
Unrestricted drug use and doping!
I want to see a tweaked-to-the-max behemoth of a man, who's pounded his body with "roids" for four years, doing a 1500 lb cling and jerk. (The crowds really roar when the bones snap!)
I want to watch cyber-limbed athletes hitting their meth pipes and throwing them into the crowds before performing a stunning decathlon!
The possibilities? Endless! The ratings? Through the roof!
is that Metallica developed their original massive fan base, way back in the day before mainstream had even heard of them, by means of bootleg cassette tape exchanges that spanned across America and beyond.
I happily purchased Metallica's first three albums but I'll never consciously give them another dime. I just don't support greedy assholes no matter how good their material is.

What's the nametag for? o.0
Of course not right.
The door is passive. The modem/router is active.

That's far from reality but I can still dream...
At least until DARPA remedies that...

I don't really care which is better but that page was funny as hell. Thanks!

Regardless, now there's a clear cut example why border folks, TSA, and the like should be seizing and searching our computers.
How convenient...

that Chuck Norris blesses each of these cables.

My thoughts exactly as I ran across your post.
On a positive note though, I was also thinking if only someone could develop a car that runs on bullshit that Slashdot could save the planet.

Whether your roommate knows he's using all the bandwidth or not you should approach him about it and settle it.
When did people get so afraid of each other?

Yeah, it's far beyond that too.

All the angst aside, you seem content to enable this disgust to pad your own pockets.
It isn't just the rich who have misplaced priorities.

Didn't sound like that to me but maybe it just sounds different to people who've actually had a gf?
Now drop the binoculars and back away from the window.

...widespread misinformation? Hasn't the American system of medicine been doing this for years? PM
Anyway, I hope this customer keeps on them. If you're creative enough and noisy enough you can get results.
Heck, the Blendtec guy seemed to receive a warmer welcome when he attempted to return the videocam he blended. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZLe0T1rUeDA
