  1. Too Many Trolls and Fanboys on Has Wikipedia Peaked? · · Score: 1, Interesting

I recently made a 3rd party add-on for a game. Trolls used wikipedia to try and smear my reputation. They also used it to make cheap insults about me and my project. I wrote to wikipedia to get any references to my project removed and they haven't got back to me. I also tried deleting the article and the people who were being abusive just reposted it. Now I could spend a lot of time checking wikipedia for slander and changing it every few days but why the hell should I have to. Surely the people at wikipedia need to take more responsibility for the contents of their site.

  2. Re:ubuntu is a joke on Canonical Chases Deal to Ship Ubuntu Server OS · · Score: 0

Windows Vista is inefficient and bloated. If more people used different operating systems then there would be more competition in the industry. The result of that would be better solutions would be developed. Microsoft probably spends more time and money maintaining their monopoly than they do developing new software.

  4. Apple are punishing their own customers on Class-Action Lawsuit Over iPhone Locking? · · Score: 0

This is really bad PR for Apple. It shows that Apple are willing to punish their own customers just to 'have control' over what users can and cannot do. I have some respect for Apple users because they have the balls to stand up to M$, but I think now they should start looking at some more open platforms. We can't let tyrants dominate the computing market anymore. Power to the people!!!

Aol recently announced that they will be moving the all their IM development over to ICQ Israel. Hopefully they will do a better job with the IM than aol were doing. Aol has never been a good IM. I dont know what people here think of ICQ, but back in the day ICQ was the best IM until the big corps like aol, yahoo and msn jumped in. Eventually ICQ turned a bit bloated and that's when I stopped using it. I hope ICQ make some big changes to the aol messenger.

  7. Microsoft Wont Abandon Vista on Microsoft Should Abandon Vista? · · Score: 0

Customers always drag their feet when it comes to upgrading windows, but a big company like Microsoft have ways and means of making people upgrade.

-Getting high street stores to sell Vista on all their new computer
-Higher education courses that teach mostly Windows
    -Giving away Windows to students
-Using the poser factor. "Look at me, I have the new Windows... awww you must be poor you're uding the 'old' version"
-Getting fanboy magazines and websites to give them good reviews and act like there are no Windows alternatives
    -Badmouthing Windows alternatives.

It's all been done before and proved to be very effective. However Windows alternatives are getting better and there is definitely a stronger movement of people to alternative operating systems. It's just a matter of countering the M$ media campaign and making M$ alternatives are seen and widely available

  14. Ignore the propoganda on The Linux Identity Crisis · · Score: 0

This is a news story coming from a pro-windows site saying that Linux might die. Of course Linux will never die, it's open source and there are millions of people who use or are interested in it. ZDnet are just trying to push people away from Linux because they are a windows friendly site.

  15. Re:My Vote on The Linux Identity Crisis · · Score: 0

If you're ripping your own cd's you can very easily rip to an open source format. If you're downloading from a free artist then you can request files in an open source format. Most free musicians want people to hear their music and make new fans so will be more than willing to co-operate. If you're downloading illegal mp3's then having an illegal codec doesn't really make much difference. Windows actually doesn't play DVDs out of the box so the chances are you're using commercial software codecs to play the DVD. I prefer to watch my DVD's on my TV screen anyway :-)

I think it's high time users had a choice of software and providers for their hardware. Tyrants like Microsoft and Apple need to stop forcing people to use their software and give the consumer some choice.

If he wants to take a cheap shot at Ubuntu then maybe it would be better for him to point out that Ubuntu is crap for instant messaging and the multimedia codecs issue. At least those issues are worth comlaining about unlike the petty issues he brings up in his review. The things he doesn't like aren't necssarily bad things, its more that he personally doesn't like them as a matter of taste. Well he's entitled to say what he wants about Ubuntu, but I just wasted 5 minutes of my time reading that crap.
