Yes, but you are also not getting MS Office, and other in-built apps. I don't know what those other apps are (haven't RTFA), but depending on those, 13GB free space could be very reasonable.
I'm currently living in a compound with a few other aid volunteers, and one of them is a deaf teacher. She teaches kids at a school in this country for special needs children.
I preface my comments with that I think she is doing a wonderful job and is a brilliant teacher but she made the remark to me that she said that many deaf parents, herself included, WANTED deaf children. Not just that they are opposed to cochlear implants, which she is, but they desired deaf kids.
I understand that there may be medical issues with implants, and forgive my ignorance, but why does teaching a child with cochlear implants both an oral language, and a sign language impede their ability to process sounds? They are still able to hear the sounds and associate a gesture with it.
But my other point is that, the "militancy" may not be restricted to cochlear implants, but that deaf people would prefer a deaf offspring to a fully hearing one. THAT strikes me as selfish and yes overly militant.
That doesn't negate the fact that the security risk is apparently true. Who cares if the company is only doing it for PR reasons for potential AV sales? The problem is still there. And Apple's response, apparently, is to go for denial.
Perhaps Windows users pay less because they are on a platform which has the highest cost associated with ownership/maintenance. You can do very little with a stock windows install other than run notepad and get on the web. They pay for *everything*. Macintosh has a subset of FOSS which works with it (libraries not always compatible) so there are add-on software costs incurred (iTunes downloads).
Linux users are more comfortable giving a little more because they spend next to nothing on out-of-pocket software costs. Anything you need is usually readily available via the package manager (Libre Office, Firefox, Tbird, Sunbird, etc, etc).
You said it right there. If you can get on the web with Windows, then you can also get Libre Office, Firefox, Tbird, Sunbird, etc, etc, for free for Windows. I'm quite certain they have handy binaries for download and install for the various incarnations of Windows XP/Vista/7 out there.
I've never met the guy, and I only started reading the site since 2002 (registered much later). But for some reason I felt a real pang when I read this. I still come to the site everyday, despite currently being posted in Samoa where the internet is slow and time limited at best. Good luck CmdrTaco. Cheers for everything.
... if you have these millions of desperately starving children, WHY do they keep having children??
It's precisely because kids have high mortality rates, that the birth rates are so high. One of the main reasons that high infant mortality rates lead to high birth rates is that people in these countries usually depend on their children to look after them when they are older, so in order to make sure that at least some children survive, they tend to have many. In essence it is about security.
The other reason is of course stigma associated with using birth control or other forms of contraceptive devices, e.g. the whole controversy of using condoms due to religious reasons.
Many users may be technically inclined but their phone may not have a viable root yet, e.g. Motorola Backflip, Droid X, etc. Of course you could say that they should have gotten a more "open" phone, but the article's point still stands that in many cases crapware is not removeable from Android phone.
She is really vehemently against filesharing technology. In fact she has quit from music apparently because of filesharing, citing that the days of being able to make money from music is over; and giving up her fight for the hasher 3 strike and you are out scheme.
Besides the obvious questions about being able to definitively identify the correct person responsible (IP addresses can be shared, spoofed, etc), won't this just increase the burden on ISP's and hence make things more expensive for their consumers? Such awesome artifical and abitrary restrictions...
I work for one of the biggest banks in Australia. The ATMs we use are Diebold machines. However, believe it or not, they are all running on Windows XP, with specialised Diebold software running on top. Everything that the customer sees on their ATM screen is simply the GUI of the Diebold software. I forget the name of the software package, but running XP on ATM is not as rare as you might think.
I had a big problem with the fact that they didn't just evacuate Romulus. They knew a supernova was happening. They knew it for a while since Spock had to come up with the device and ship to try and contain it. So why not just evacuate the planet, it's not like they didn't have ships or prior warning.
I'll boil it down to this for you: who gets the chicks in high school, which is basically the most important developmental time of your life emotionally, physically and intellectually? Is it: a) the cool, popular jock or b) the smart nerd.
Vice versa for the ladies. Who gets the desirable males in school. Is it the a) social butterfly or b) smart girl who's into science?
Face it, science and learning is not a turn on for the majority of the opposite sex during high school. Now this could be because of peer pressure, herd mentality, jock mentality, etc...but when being smart, i.e. a nerd, in hs is seen as an insult, and bragging about how much you failed an exam by is seen as cool, guess which type of person chicks/guys will find attractive? And that's such a huge incentive in HS. Well once your hormones kick in anyway.:p
Yes. A couple of examples:
The Sagradda Familia. It's being in construction for about 130 years now with a forecast finish that will push it into 2030.
The Cologne Cathedral. About 600 years to finish.
