You won't be unhappy. My last two personal builds were AMD after being an Intel (and Mac) user forever and a day. Athlon 2500+ last summer and a 3800+ AMD64 X2 (just like in the benchmarks) about 6 weeks ago.

Unless Intel can hit that sweet spot where performance meets price I'm going to use AMD. They can't keep charging for the "luxury" of having "Intel Inside".

agree. I think I've even seen a package of "Assorted resistors" (no specification as to what voltage or resistance rating) for sale at Radio Shack. Uh, yeah, any 'ol resistor will do, let me just buy a pack of "assorted" resistors.

Probably Radio Shack. I saw something similar at a RatShack a few years ago and remember standing there reciting "Bad Beer Rots Our Young Guts But Vodka Goes Well" as I looked at the parts through the bag. Never did find the part there, had to go to Active.

I read Roving Mars a few months ago. It was written by Steven Squyres, the principal investigator for the Mars missions. A very good book with some behind the scenes scoop on the politics and squabbling involved in getting these things build and sent. Highly recommended.

Just come in one weekend and change the entire network over to BSD without running it by anyone. Why bother with the pesky work of drawing up a well-structured arguement for what you want, and then run it by the people who sign your check?

I did that, although not over a weekend. The people that sign my cheques trust my opinion. Now we have OpenBSD running virtually all critical services here.

This reality is not going to change. In fact it will only get worse as technology coverage is handed to newer, less-qualified observers who simply cannot use a Microsoft Windows computer.

Perhaps these happy Mac users are former Windows users? Dvorak is going on a limb by assuming they're techo-illiterates who haven't used Windows.
