which I believe is what they're referring to by "1 inch" hard disk drive is too large for cellphones
Whenever I read about hard disks in a cell phone I always wonder about the gyroscope effect making the phone hard to manage. Power up a standard hard drive and try turning it perpindicular to the spindle and see what I mean.
2-3GB on a 0.85" drive isn't much compared to the 30GB+ on a 1.5" drive. That said I wish they'd put more money into developing high density solid state storage devices. 0.85" is cool but it's still a mechanical device with all the inherent problems.
Being as/. links to so many groklaw stories, should they help out with groklaw's bandwidth costs? It's getting to the point where/. is becoming merely a hyperlink index of groklaw stories.
In the last civic election we used electronic machines but all they did was take the piece of paper we marked our X on and scanned it in. There was still a paper trail if a physical audit was needed.
That's what I was thinking when I read the article. It's just silly, for example: would anyone even consider sharing book reviews from Amazon? What is the point?
Of course when music sales drop further the RIAA will blame teh intarweb and not the fact that they sign (mostly) unoriginal, boring musicians.
If the "Nerd" moniker is now the baseline for the general populace then the
True Nerds will have to come up with something to differentiate us
from Them. Maybe it's time to go back to black glasses with tape,
flood pants and pocket protectors. Perhaps a secret handshake too!
I hope you're right, but when I speak about open source to non-techies the first question is usually "Can it run Office?" Then I have to go into the OpenOffice sales pitch. It's an uphill battle, the key (imho) is convincing them that they're only using Windows as a shell for Office.
This pisses people off, so maybe one or two will try linux just in spite of MS and if they don't at least they'll hear about an alternative.
Unfortunately you're speaking in SlashLand, not Real World. Ma and Pa Kettle will likely never hear of Lindows, even with whatever little news coverage this generates. The only way to get open source in the real world is to promote it yourself, if you depend on news reports to do it for you then open source has already lost.
Not only is it a name, it's a generic word found in any dictionary. If they were to try using the name "L-OS/X" or "L-AIX" I could see where there would be a problem.
.. This article was nothing more than +1 Flamebait. The author sounds like a little boy who finally gets to say "I told you so! I told you so!" when there really isn't anything to be told. All OSs have undiscovered holes and problems. The key is how fast the vendor deals with the problem.
Your site has the SCO logo on it, without permission I'll bet. Prepare for a letter from Darl & Co.

It's nice to know that there will be something to look forward to after RotK comes out.
Umm.. there's something called Real Life.. It's a hoot, I suggest you disconnect for a while and try it out.
Ah ok. I only had a faint memory of "him" and wasn't quite sure. Thanks.
I assumed as much. Alan Partridge is a UK entertainer, is he not?
Dear Santa,
I've been a good boy this year. Please bring me:

Being as

50,000 pigeons with a note saying "SYN" tied to them flying to Utah..
(nb: I'm in Canada)

Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for the laughs.
Why would I want to share a description only?

14"? Then they should do us all a favour and patch goatse.cx guy.
All this language processing packed onto a single CD yet
Watch your puny single CPU i386 chips die under the crushing load of 10,000 kernel locks! MwaahahahahA!
Did they have sound in space as the ships flew by? That has always been one of my major pet peeves. At least Kubrick got it right in 2001.
As it's less popular, less apps run on it.
Loads of open source stuff runs on OSX (just compile it with GCC or download a binary).
