So, according to the article, and this is on a Gaming Website so it must be true, playing X-Box 360 games for more than an hour will burn a staggering 3,000 calories, approximately 500-1,000 more, indeed, than the average person is supposed to consume in a day. I can't tell if you're serious, but here goes. 60 calories is the TOTAL BURNED for the Wii-hour, not the INCREASE. Therefore 60/1.02 = 58.824 calories an hour for the 360 - using the numbers you provided, of course. The study actually says 2% increase in calories burned for the whole week, from active vs. passive gaming. But what about the XBOX 360 vs Wii, you say?? The calorie/consumption difference is a staggering 51%. So, really 60/1.51 = 39.735 calories per hour playing the XBOX 360.

Speak for yourself, I would shrink to nothing eating the pittance! (for my self esteem, please assume we weren't talking in the standard - food - kCals)
From the feel of it, there are a lot of angry atheists here on SlashDot, and a lot of messed up folks that seem to feel they are perfect... maybe that Voltaire character was right!
...Man, I hate to tell you this, but I think you got phished - someone seems to be posting adverts using your account. Wait! You haven't been browsing for some Hard-Core-Adult-Action lately, have you?
My 50 year old parents use craigslist list to find things, though I'm not sure if they would ever post. The problem is that those "college students" won't always be college students. They grow up, and usually subscribe to a paper. Now they won't, which means less viewers. There are also less local advertisers thanks to craigslist. How many of those college students are working their way through school? The majority of waiting jobs my friends have found have been from the site - local employers have found a way to attract more candidates without paying a cent. Both of which means that adds cost now less to place - and really, add money is what makes the paper run. They only charge the 50 cents because people don't value free things.
The real problem with newspapers is just what Craig said. Investors expect really high profit margins of 10-30%. They aren't going out of business, but the business is certainly changing.
One of the huge changes: they've cut production staff by 50%. At least, that's what they've done with the paper my father has worked at for 30+ years. They closed down one print shop completely, centralized production, and are down from 9 men per print-press to 5 (and cut down on shifts per week). There are a ton more mess ups (double pages, mis-aligned colors, etc) and everyone now hates their job.
Somehow, I doubt the people who are at the top have changed their schedule or life to accommodate this new world. Shit runs downhill, son. Times are only changing for some of us.
Pray tell, Mr. Hey-Soos triple-six, can you still send messages if you run out of birds?
That won't be a problem when you buy the Unlimited Connection Plan*
*Unlimited Connection Plan limited to 300 African Swallows a month.
He designed the QWERTY-layout when jamming was a problem - when the next model went into production, it was no longer a problem. The real problems were that they already had a reasonably OK model that their current clients were familiar with, and that it would take more time/money to redesign the layout when no-one (read "the investors") truly cared. Heck, people still don't care - my family/friends look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I could remap their keys for them.
Batteries? Huh? First, solar electricity in California (not where I live, btw, but it is a state with very expensive electricity) can be sold back to the utility company; if you produce more than is required, it causes the meter to run backwards. And since the highest electricity demand is during the middle of the day, especially when people run air conditioning, that is when the rates are highest. If you sell energy back to the utility company when the rates are highest, then use electricity in the evenings when rates are lower, it's a win-win. And storage? Use the grid! Besides the advantage of selling excess energy, being connected to the grid eliminates battery and storage costs (not to mention inverters and other equipment).
300+ comments, and this is my favorite! Everyone is already connected to the grid, so why do the other commenters assume that they would suddenly be completely self sufficient and not need the grid? Its not like installation will cut the power lines! Sell back power, and use the grid when necessary. The point is not to eradicate coal power, because honestly, if we covered the entire world with solar cells I'm sure people would still NEED (read "want") more - our goal is to increase total energy so we no longer have brownouts and blackouts.
I'm with you on the burner, but last I checked I spent ~$30 for 15 duel-layer DVDs (8 gigs each, 120gigs total) - so, around 10x the cost/size ratio of this new hologram-DVD. Eventually, the burner will pay for itself.
I didn't RTFA, does it say how long it takes to read/write this monster?
You, of course. And anyone else who would deprive us of our second amendments rights.
And the people who don't listen to the no-trespassing signs. And the keep-off-the-grass signs. And those darn kids and their punk-rock music. And the Hippies. And anyone who owns a gun. (there should be a top ten list. Number 1 could be the **AA)
Can you steal someone's trash? I know the government can search your trash and alley, and can reconstruct shredded documents to use as evidence. Why wouldn't a private party be able to do the same? I get that the family was wrong to lie, but I don't see how dumpster diving for the papers would be wrong.
And the amount of damage you can do as an elected official....
...well, apparently the non-elected officials can do just as much damage, and we the public can not even recall them from office. Splendid.
Unless you meant to imply that the elected officials are the ones that do less damage? It is so hard to tell what was meant when the statements are so vague.
Our elected officials are starting to find it a bit harder to shove legislation we-the-people oppose down our throats (suddenoutbreakofcommonsense amongst the people, realizing that they actually DO control the government like they are supposed to, but only when they make the effort?) - whereas the unelected have no need to concern themselves with constituents.
Of course the 24 hour news cycle doesn't really have any impact on my chances of scoring that new job I want.......
I think the whole point of TFA is that the news has a great impact for just about any part of our life. (how's that for vague!)
The most horrible thing about those 101/intersection cameras are how blindingly bright and distracting the flash is at 1:30 in the morning - when your reactions are already sub-par. It is actually illegal for someone to have a "fish eye" bit of different color on their brake lights because the distraction may cause an accident. (Here's some Cali laws, too lazy to search for the Arizona Laws, or the specific one I'm thinking of.) How can this be any better?
I almost feel like getting into an accident every time someone around me sets one off, simply so I can sue them out of existence. I just want to concentrate on the other drivers, instead of searching for cameras and religiously checking my speedometer.
Forgot to add a link to the macros, my friend.
Don't Taste me, Bro!
[Sorry for the Photobucket link, couldn't for the life of me find it online so I had to upload.]

I'll bet you have a un-deserved sense of accomplishment back in a few days.
(not trolling, just wondering what this guy is *actually* doing to get back his property - or if he just cares about his righteous sense of outrage)
Wow, I didn't know the RIAA posted on
I feel honored, can I have your autograph (please pay no attention to the small print)

That's nothing, I can finally download my own internet!

They actually said how much it would cost. We can all die of shock now.
That being said, how much does the reader/writer cost?
That may not have been a nice comment, but it could have started some great "you know how I know you're gay" posts. Darn them all to heck.
Maybe we need a "Setup" modifier!?

Make sure you have the show url option enabled, and click on nothing suspect. Just dampen your natural curiosity, or you'll end up like the cat.
I would just as soon label the link comments as funny, for the mental image of all the poor souls who ignore common sense and click anyway.

I think the problem here may be that you have to dumb it down a bit.

I'd give you an example involving a car analogy, but... err, well you seem to be the master in that subject.
Its a sad day in
