I'd say for open source... and I don't see how it can be against it. At the very least it's neutral IMO.
1) A third party usually looks at open source software, and if something like this was found then word would get around fast. It doesn't require everyone who uses the software to be able to look for these problems. (For example, on lesser known open source software the company I work for uses, we almost always take a look at the source.)
2) Not sure what your point is... Are you saying a malicious employee may more easily put something like this into the software if it is OS? If so, well, most "IT quacks" in that position have many ways to achieve the same goals.
You are wrong if you assume that you don't have to worry about ID theft / fraud / takeover.
It's a concern for everyone living in a first world country unless you are a complete hermit. (And even that isn't going to totally protect you... in fact it may even make it easier to commit identity fraud in some cases)
Your identity may be worth more to a criminal than your possessions / credit.
I've sure had some nightmares, but if they have in fact cleaned up the drivers I'd be willing to give them (ATI) another try. I actually dislike the newer Nvidia drivers, since they have moved all the tweaking options into a second program "NVTweak" or whatever it's called.
I'd really like to see Linux support improve on ATI products as well. I don't know what the video card support is like these days, but I'm pretty sure my Theater550's tuner/capture cards will never see linux use. (Of course I should have thought of that *before* I bought them. Oh well. )
I'll second that... XBMC rocks, though I rarely use it these days. (Mostly due to the fact that I've invested over $4k into my "toy" pc that is now hooked up to my TV/media center)
XMBC can play HD however, and the xbox can do HD (At least 720P) however the poor old 733MHz processor can have trouble decoding some formats in HD.
I sit about 6ft away from a 46". Its very comfortable to watch:) Not even close to "sitting front row in a movie theater". I'd say it's just about right actually.
I'd take an Nvidia video card over ATI/AMD any day, solely based on the fact that ATI drivers *really* suck. (Unless they've changed by a huge amount in the last while).
The driver hassle alone is worth it the money to me.

Isn't the ISP more comparable to the printing company? I doubt the printer would be held liable for such things.
Sounds more to me like they just can't be shared via "WD Anywhere". Not that they can't be stored on the drive. I may misunderstand though.
*Due to unverifiable media license authentication, the most common audio and video file types cannot be shared with different users using WD Anywhere Access. A list of the non shareable file types can be found here.
Assuming no possibility for cross breeding (which they test the hell out of, just so that their modifications don't get out into the wild), I see no issue with these goals.

Just sayin'..
Also, I'd be very surprised if this wasn't intentional. Not likely "debug" code.

WTF?
Someone actually modded this comment insightful? I hope that was a joke.
"75% to 80% of PHP users were developing on Windows"
-- But how many of those scripts are being served from windows servers? I strongly suspect far less.
I took a look at that as well. "Total garbage" seems like an understatement.

Ouch, I detect a possible infinite loop in these cases....
I've got this feature from shaw. Works well. Using it I've seen speeds of 2.5MB/s for short bursts.
Comes with the xtreme-i package.
MD was and is used often in Broadcasting.
Others:
3.5" Floppies
SPDIF
DAT
8mm video (Video8)
SACD
Various DV formats (often used in Broadcast, again)
I'd say all of the above saw reasonable success.
They've had their fair share of miserable failures as well.

My HP does this to me. Sometimes such a shock it is painful.

I've been considering getting one of these.... They look cheesy as shit, but seems like the best cheap solution.
Thanks for the tip.
He was a seed farmer. Did you expect him to toss his seeds because they were contaminated?
A lot of us would feel better about it if they actually were sterile.
Glad to see you read the brochure ;)

..... Scared to hear you have so much faith in Monsanto.

I happen to know more than a few farmers effected by this.
You should inform the farmers in Saskatchewan about the "no possibility for cross breeding".
Sorry folks,
Chroot IS an effective layer when you are also dropping privileges from superuser.
Obviously chrooting a "root" process does no good.
But hey, this is slashdot not reality. Go ahead and mod me down.
