Getting a driver license suspended is usually an extreme measure based on DUI, too many points for dangerous maneuvers etc. That is, it is normally a result of risking other people's lives needlessly. (I'm sure someone can provide anecdotes to the contrary, but this is usually the case from what I have seen) A life and death situation is a far cry from any over-inflated 'financial damage' claim. Not that I think there is not some room for punitive damages here, but it holds no comparison to a life/death scenario.

I was always suprised to see other people load pages 1 at a time and then wait. Previewing your email on a web page (for those people that like to send 5MB attachments) is also a handy tip.

No disagreement on my end, but the .NET framework complains pretty loudly if you attempt to use a method marked as 'deprecated'. A quick search will usually give you a solution that works well with the newer framework. It at least seems that MS is putting forth some effort to stop programmers from using the old stuff and move on to better ways / methods. Their next version of windows needs to put all old code into a virtual machine and move forward with a cleaner API, which seems like what they are working towards.

Most routers do not run windows. They would have to break the internet to stop any TCP/IP compliant device to stop working. I use Kubuntu from time to time and it works fine. They don't officially support it since it is a small market share of tech-savvy people, so that is somewhat understandable. That said I helped my neighbor lady out yesterday and Comcast support had done more to wreck her connection than help (1/2 hour on the phone for her). I had her back up in running in about 5 minutes of fixing all their mistakes. Count yourself lucky that they do not "support" you.

My Comcast modem (new 6 months ago) does the single MAC thing. My router and the modem refuse to communicate with one another so I had to plug directly into my computer NIC to be allowed to get an IP address from the modem, then enter the MAC address + IP information into my router. Thankfully, the dynamic IP address hasn't changed. Comcast tech-support was not very "supportive".

Maybe not disbarment for 1 minor infraction, as human beings make mistakes, but this looks like a fairly egregious violation of ethics. As you said, this should not have been suspended.

I was in Fred Meyers grocery store last weekend when over the intercom came an announcement for a 'Lost Child Alert'. In all honesty, I looked around out of fear that she might have been anywhere near me for no other reason than self preservation. Sad that it has come to that. Agreed that is not simple. I gave a bad example. How about bedding (i.e.: sheets) If I purchase a nice cotton set of sheets with 800 thread count for x$ and 5 years later I only get a scratchy polyester set for the same x$, it is not really an exact replacement, but it is still "a set of sheets", which seems to be what the CPI 'basket' is doing. (I realize 'the basket of goods' might not include this, but in a first world economy it should). My comment is that it gives way too much wiggle room for manipulation of the statistics. This isn't really a disagreement between us, just that it gives too much room for manipulation, hence my reply. (sorry I could not come up with the typical /. car analogy)

Also, many economists believe that the CPI in fact overstates inflation. Why? People will substitute from goods which became relatively more expensive to those which haven't. Does this mean if I replace my nice Porterhouse Steak with a Sirloin Steak "It's just as good"? I would be tempted to call that inflation by any name.

Bold print does not make all of your points valid. Please explain how a savings account that pays less than inflation (this same money is put back into the system as a loan) is somehow "taking money out of the system"? I was under the impression that that was one form of encouraging people to "put their money to work" and greasing the economy. The same idea also goes for investing in the stock market. I might be missing something, but spending value without producing value is the one best way to end up with true debt and being poorer (IMHO by definition).
