Actually, the format has died. Sony (only recently) discontinued making the players. Their niche market, I assume, is migrating towards digital recording.

Just look at what MS was claiming. They won't let third parties develop GPL code using MS tools because they claim that will make the MS tools GPL.

Unless MS is somehow claiming that all code developed with MS tools automaticaly belongs to MS, their claim is absurd.

    From your link:

I received a lot of feedback about this article. Here are the typical comments, together with my answers:

"You forgot to mention that all methods in Java are virtual, because nobody is using the final keyword."

The fact that people are not using the final keyword is not a problem with the language, but with the programmers using it. Also, virtual functions calls in general are not problematic because of the call overhead, but because of lost optimization opportunities. But since JITs know how to inline across virtual function boundaries, this is not a big deal.

The question is one of due proccess. The RIAA did not present ANY evidence that this person actually did anything wrong. They weren't even ASKED to present evidence. No judge ever reviewed the merits of their request. They filed a one-page document with a County Clerk.

Would you like it if I forced your ISP to reveal who you were without providing any evidence that I needed to know this? Would it make you feel better if I unilaterally declared that I thought you had kiddie porn?

Mythtv has this. Actually, you can configure the skip length. I set the right arrow to 30 second skip and "Page Up" to 2 minutes. Mythtv also has an experimental "skip to blank" commercial skipper.

You can also view recordings or Live TV on any machine on your network (video card/CPU permitting) without additional TV tuners (one Live showing per video card).

  16. Re:mythtv on Home-Grown TiVo Stories? · · Score: 5, Informative

Yes, I'm very happy with mythtv. With the 0.8 release, it's split between a front-end and a back-end. You can record all your programs on one machine and watch the recordings (or live TV) from any front-end machine, even if the front-end machine doesn't have a tuner card of its own.

Mythtv also has hooks to execute any command you desire to change the channels. Plus a web front-end (mythweb) for viewing program info and recording a program or deleting old recordings.

It doesn't recommend stuff for you to watch and it won't think you're gay if you tape Will & Grace.

For the past two years, I've done my taxes with TaxCut software. You get a $5 rebate for the Federal program and a full ($25) rebate for one State Program. For both years, I've received the rebates before Tax Day.
