The real problem is proving that you even know the key to an encrypted file on your computer.

I remember seeing a web page that made an MP a criminal. The web site author claimed to have commited an unspecified crime, confessed to the crime, encrypted his confession (I think he even made a deal about having his confession notarized), and emailed the key to the MP. The MP then had evidence of a crime encrypted on his computer that, if he failed to decrypt, he would be liable for.

I've undoubtedly got some details wrong and would appreciate it if anyone knew the link to the site.

I feel a little silly getting in the middle of a 7-year-old flame war... I was able to read the discussions from the other poster, so I'd like to comment.

The issue did not seem to be whether or not lucid/xemacs was "better". Rather, the battle seemed to be over who was harder to work with. RMS accused lucid of not listening and causing delays while lucid accused RMS of not wanting to "let go" of development and making unreasonable demands.

    So there's two camps:

RMS claimed that emacs 19 was delayed *because* of lucid. If lucid/xemacs was better, it may have been because of troubles they caused at the FSF.

    ---OR---

emacs 19 was going nowhere because RMS was difficult to work with and lucid/xemacs was better because they stopped working with RMS.

It's worth noting that they did attempt to work together to merge the two but, by that time, it was too late because of early design decisions made at lucid (specifically the use of an X toolkit).

Finally, RMS told everyone that it was OK by him if people continue to work and develop on lucid/xemacs because it was free software.

Get over it, man! Seek professional help if you must, but don't let Stallman ruin you're life. It's not worth it. You accuse him of being obsessive about the GNU thing, but you appear far more obsessed with him. Maybe you should think of staying off line for a while and maybe getting a new hobby to keep your mind him.

No, the Enlgish problems are at AOL where they think "default" means "exclusive". If the prompt said "Do you want AOL to be your ONLY access to the internet?", users could be held responsible.

I have, for example, "default" colors set in Netscape. But I didn't select "override document colors", which means that some pages come up with colors other than the default.

If I say I want something to be my "default", that means I want to use that unless I ask for something else. If I make Netscape my "default" browser, I expect netscape will open any html page I click on. But I don't expect netscape to come up if I manually go over and start Opera. Furthermore, I expect to be able to change my default. With AOL, the only way to change the "default" is to uninstall. If it's your default and you later decide to add Erols, you can't. If I make Netscape my default browser, I don't want it to go and delete all competing browsers. Selecting AOL "default" completely disables other DUN.
