Although.. the worst thing about it is all the people who just send connection requests to everyone. There is no value in your list of connections if none of them KNOWS you and your abilties. There is no value to having a connection who knows nothing about your professionally, and you provide no value to them if you don't know them and their abilities professionally... but like on social media, a lot of people treat it as a "contest" to see who has the most connections. I have a feeling a lot of people think that MORE connections means more likelihood of getting hired etc.., rather than having good quality connections who can vouch for your ability and knowledge due to experience working with you.
Federal, State & Local government aren't fined or charged when someone shoplifts a slice of pizza, then uses ROADS to get away from the scene.
Why would the provider of the virtual "road" that infringers use be fined or charged? There's very little difference.
Maybe if they would cut the shit with the damned monthly subscription price and go back to a real pricing model that is sustainable for people who have slow-income parts of the year, perhaps they'd be doing better.
Being able to obtain anonymity on the Internet is important, for the same reason that reporters should never reveal their sources.
Sometimes information MUST be made known to the public, and the identity of the provider of that information MUST remain unknown for that person or group's safety.
A bit of hateful trolling is a small price to pay for this.
There are other methods for rooting out trolls, and more importantly methods people can learn to recognize, and discount the opinion of, online trolls.

If M$ does end up buying github, the first thing to do is to fork the software used into branches on another, similar repository. (gitlab?)
Anyone developing the necessary software for github to work, start working on the new fork instead. (unless they're directly employed by github itself.)
Remove all software repos from github, and move them elsewhere.. even if creating a new, similar, hosting site is necessary.
This would leave M$ with an empty shell that nobody uses but them, a lot less developers, and a big pile of cash out of their pocket... all things M$ deserves in large quantity.
It'll also prevent M$ from making the software suck donkey balls like all their software does.
If the sale goes through, I hope everything above happens.
I loved Descent. The action was top-notch, and the graphics were as good as anything up to that point, without slowing down enough that the game was unplayable. I had many hours of playing descent, never with anything but a keyboard for controls. It rocked majorly!
Pop music has been formulated by algorithm, and not "written" in a musical fashion, since the 1980's.
The lyrics, the hooks etc.., it's all calculated. Every note and word of nearly every pop song is analysed for how it affects a person emotionally etc.., and then combinations of those are put together in a computer model.
Ever listened to an "original" song by no-direction... it's a series of clichés set to very familiar chord changes and rhythms.. just like every other "pop" sensation.
The more they "refine" these algorithms, the more pop music sounds similar, and the more similar it sounds, the more obvious it becomes.
and... there isn't one of us (perhaps excluding the deaf) who doesn't know a ridiculously stupid pop song or artist that we love listening to, knowing full well their music is crap.
We really could use more talented poets and more real musicians in the world... but when mediocrity ends up being the big hit, and the song with truly meaningful lyrics and some originality from a musical standpoint ends up not being heard.
Easy solution: Don't set up encryption in your e-mail products, but instead, (en|de)crypt all messages outside of the e-mailer, using copy/paste to get the messages into or out of your e-mail client, or even by using attachments and.ASC files etc..
If you have a clue, getting around that flaw is child's play.

I absolutely loathe the concept of software being subscription-only in this fashion. I purchased Photoshop and Lightroom as stand-alone products as one-off expenses. I upgraded them the same way... so I have perpetual licenses.
I haven't moved on to the "cloud" based products, because if I decide to stop paying, or lose the ability to pay, a subscription, I want my software to still work.
If there was desktop colour control in Linux, and it was supported well in The GIMP, that's probably what I would use.
Darktable isn't ready for prime-time as a Lightroom replacement, but down the road, hopefully it will be... and good colour control will get added to X.
