  6. HR people suck on For Those Who Wish to be Programmers? · · Score: 1, Interesting

This is truly a problem with the system. I will elaborate. I don't know the author of the question, but let's assume he's a fairly good programmer with a lot of useful experience. The problem is that a company will take a kid straight out of school with a CS degree over this guy any time. Whats unfair or stupid about that is that the guy probably has more useful experience than the student. Students are taught CS, which is basically sorts, lists, theory, etc, but usually don't know anything that actually gets used like Perl or JSPs or SQL, etc. Thus the student will have to take a huge learning curve to learn all the packages, which will be less effecient and cost more than if our guy just walked in and started working, even if he doesn't have a degree. So HR people are morons and should hire based on what practical shit you know, not on whether you have a silly degree from some shit university.

  8. You are asking about material science on Making Casings for Prototype Electronic Devices? · · Score: 1, Informative

You are discussing the job of people who practice materials science. Materials scientists study a lot of chemistry and some physics and also learn a lot about shaping solids. Other areas of interest are molecular structures of certain materials and manipulating various structures tiny scales either chemically or mechanically to produce the indented material or structure.

Try finding a machinist or a materials science firm that does designs for and implements commercial plastic or metal housings for consumer products. These firms are few and far between, and most material scientists work directly for companies that mass produce products, but you should be able to find someone to help you. The best bet for you would be to come up with a detailed design for the housing and hire a firm to produce prototypes for you according to the design. The shaping of plastic and metals is not something you can really do in your home, unless you are a materials scientist or you have a great deal of knowledge and experience with such things.

  9. X10 cameras are a signal of cultural change on Battery Packs for X-10 Cameras? · · Score: 0

Why are X10 cameras so popular? Why do people think they are worth their $80 and what do they use them for? Are they being used for surveillence of their families? Or are managers spying on or monitoring their employees? Either of these scenarios are undesirable from the standpoint of the family members or the workers. Who wants to be watched like in 1984? Basically, surveillence culture will lead to a culture of fear of doing anything except what you would be able to do in public.

Microsoft gains nothing by attacking free software, they should either ignore it or somehow adopt it, for instance publishing a version of Office for FreeBSD or something where they wouldn't have to open the code like they do for Mac Office. By fighting it like this it only makes the programmer/engineer/IT community hate Microsoft more and want to adopt more free software solutions in the workplace.
