  1. my experiece on Getting a Literature Ph.D. Will Make You Into a Horrible Person · · Score: 1

No one will read this since my karma is low, but this is my experience. I had gotten my masters in EE while working. Afterwards I started a phd in EE while working. I figured I would do one or two semesters, see if I liked it and then I would go full time. During the second semester I started consulting via 1099 for a small company. So at one point, I was working one job, going to school and working a little for a second job. I started thinking to myself. Hmm. I can make X in salary and Y in consulting work or I can make 0 and go to school fulltime. When I get out after 4-6 years I may or may not make more base salary than I currently am making. What is the chance that my new salary will be greater than four years of lost income plus tuition? I figured no chance. So it was an easy decision for me to quit school. Later I was working a job and my peer was a phd. I figured since we were the same job title we were making the same money. One day they had a layoff and they kept me and got rid of him. So from my perspective I think getting a masters degree is pretty much the sweet spot for education versus cash income. If you are born rich or the smartest guy you know, then a phd is best for you. But for the regular smarter than average guys but most certainly not the smartest or hardest working then you are better off getting a masters degree, working and using your spare time to maintain your skills.

I thought the whole thing was lame. It was a t-shirt and it did not even have pron or obscenities on it. I am surpised that Delta made it worse by kicking him from the plane. Then again a rude stewardess on a business trip in the 90s made me never to travel on delta again. FWIW, once I was an executive platinum on AA and I flew my family of four for free to China with my airline points. I really used to travel a lot and Delta missed out on a lot of business with me because of a rude stewardess. I'm pretty easy going and tolerant and I don't remember what she did, but it was so bad that I swore I would never use them again and I have not.

The way I see it. He has a criminal conviction. The victims family can now sue in civil court for monetary damages from wrongful death. And if he is only in jail for 30 days it will give him plenty of time to work off the money he will owe the family and the lawyers. And to add insult to injury. His only way out is to file bankruptcy. Bankruptcy, criminal conviction and not to mention the notoriety of what he has done will pretty much flush his future down the drain. I assure you he has not yet begun to regret what he did.

" on average, black people are more social than white people" That's interesting as well. I wonder if it has to do with a survival trait based on socio-economic position. For instance, if you are from a social group which is at a disadvantage, it behooves you to be friendly to those whom aren't. The ones who build ties to better off group have a better chance of moving up in the ladder. Also, I wonder if our experience also betrays first hand experience. For instance, I know two types of people. People who are assholes and people who are cool. I avoid the assholes and spend time with the cool ones. Since most of the blacks I spend time with are cool, my experience with them are that they are mostly friendly and outgoing as you said.

comes down to genetics. Compare american blacks to any other blacks, particularly in africa. I can't remember the percent but a large percentage of american blacks have racial traits of whites. Possibly due to selective breeding during slavery. I don't think slave holders bred slaves to be be smart. In fact, I believe those who were smart or showed a tendency for persistence were bred out. I believe the result is larger more physical and less intellectual. Coupled with economic disadvantage it created generations of people who rely on handouts which exacerbated the problem. So, if you don't have a home computer, books or toys you will spend your time at the free basketball court. And if society shows success in singing (old time mistrial), basketball/football (physically demanding), or crime as a last resort, well that is where you will go. America now has a few generations of true economic opportunity now, give it time and it will even out racial differences in professions.

You lose your company X battery, tamper with battery identifications? You are out of luck. Up until the end of wow days, I was writing and tweaking macros. I'll be honest it was incredibly fun to get castsequence macros for all types of moves. Even more fun for dual boxing where a healer would heal whomever the opponent was attacking while both of my toons would attack the same target. I used to play pvp and I loved it when people would complain "omg the bot has the flag" and hear someone else yell in response "yah but its kicking ass too." Also I wrote my own LUA add-ons to get events that used to alert me with a message, audible sound and spell icon when certain bonus spells had proc'd. For instance a druids natures grace has proc'd and the next cast was going to be instant cast. I used my 45 year old ass to qualify for arena titles and the paid arena tourney title as well. Gotta love it when and old guy with bad eyesight and some code can beat down a twitchy 15 year old kid with faster reflexes. Pity I got a temporary ban for botting in battlegrounds when all it was excellent macroing and lua. Rather than argue, I quit and saved a ton of money and time to do something else with my programming skills. fwiw, here is a 2v2 video which played solo with a guild mate. You can see the cast sequences on the keys. No UI mods here.

regarding t34's and Mark IVs. I think the problem was that until Stalingrad the Germans fought in largely open field battles. Once they got to street fighting, tanks lose a lot of their effectiveness. They were designed to break trench warfare. Street fighting is won or lost with infantry. After Stalingrad the Germans did not have the morale or foot soldiers to support the tanks in open field warfare. It was not merely a tank vs tank game.
