Makes me think we should have also had a container format for music, then this problem of technology stagnation could have been avoided as it is with the use of.avi
btw. releasing music in flac ofcours would be even better, being lossless. aac also has proponents over ogg. just anything but mp3!
.ogg is a container format, often used with the Ogg Vorbis codec..m4a is another popular container format, generally used with AAC and Apple Lossless.
Because ogg vorbis is not significantly better than well encoded mp3. To make the switch from mp3 worthwhile the alternative has to either be lossless or offer convenience benefits that out weight the cost of having to switch equipment.
I'm sure it's just my lack of imagination but I don't quite see the mechanism that would lead from first posts on slashdot to more success in producing offspring.
You're missing the point. There is no expectation of privacy with a self-signed certificate either, so why present it as if it were less secure than completely unencrypted http?
It takes seconds to open a new tab and navigate to the page. Dozens of seconds at least which feel like forever since you'll be waiting for pages to load for most of that time. Opening everything up in a new tab beforehand will let the browser load the pages for you before you start viewing them. This is very handy if you or the server is on limited bandwidth. Either of the two is so often the case that I open everything up in new tabs automatically these days. Finding the correct tab is rarely a problem since it takes very little time to switch between tabs and you can sort them in multiple windows by various criteria.
I've been using EDGE for internet access a lot lately and I'd often be able to swap through all my 50+ tabs before I even get the first Google results, let alone get to load the correct page. Of course I never need to do that because I more or less know where my tabs are.
Using multiple tabs also simplifies browsing as you'll never need to use the back or forward buttons, and I'd imagine opening up every potentially relevant search result in a new tab is common practice.
Again, right. But the fact is that music thieves give the record labels and the RIAA the justification they need to make those prices so high. If people didn't steal music, they wouldn't be able to justify keeping prices so high by blaming it on "the amount of CD sales we lose". Do you see my point? I do not. They have no need to justify their prices. They set them at whatever price they think will produce the highest [number of units sold] * [revenue per unit] just like any reasonable business. Don't like the price? Don't buy the plastic. "Justifying" if done at all is just a marketing gimmick.
The point is who actually get it right... Virtual Desktops were got "right" long before Apple copied the concept.
Personally I always hated Dashboard/Konfabulator/etc. but I guess it doesn't bother me since I don't have to use it.
I was playing with a friend's macbook with OS X 10.5 earlier this winter. Spotlight managed to freeze the whole machine to the point where a forced reboot was the only way out in less than 15 minutes. I'll just stick to normal searching and QuickSilver, thanks.
For an example of Apple getting something right, how about Exposé?
Webcams? Nobody cares, 16-year-old girls included (they can always use a real camera to take nude photos of themselves). No smileys and winks, that's good, I don't have to go out of my way to disable them. Getting Flash to work is the only actual issue. Oh, that and drivers.
Quick Time pro bugging, anyone? To be fair QT is the same shitty nagware on OS X that it is on Windows. Also your (however intentional) misspellings of "Mac" and "Apple" are childish and stupid.
You don't seem to comprehend how big an economical impact that would have on a country of 5 million people.
Because "pick-the-cat" is a total pain. The only way to solve it is to guess right.
Wouldn't happen, if Apple didn't hate ogg they would've added support to iTunes long ago.
Not just SanDisk's players, many cell phones too.
Most _computer_ player software supports ogg btw.
Except, say, iTunes.

If foot massages count as exploitation I really wish I got exploited more often. Stop being a retard.
It's just a foot massage. Unless I'm missing out by not having audio it's not sexual in any way whatsoever.
Even /b/ needs moderation to keep out the child porn.

I don't get it. How is an unencrypted http connection safer from man-in-the-middle attacks than an SSL connection with a self-signed certificate?
How about you don't imply extra security with a self-signed certificate? It IS still more secure than vanilla http, why make it seem less so?
I certainly don't see the problem with it. Encryption and certification are completely separate issues, what is so confusing about this?
You're missing the point. There is no expectation of privacy with a self-signed certificate either, so why present it as if it were less secure than completely unencrypted http?
By this logic humans should never have died of diseases caused by viruses or bacteria, which don't have any kind of brain at all.
I bet you can't use it as a toaster anymore though.
Still? Really, joking about the name got old in a hurry.
It is painfully obvious that you nor the grandparent have ever used The GIMP and Photoshop on OS X.
I agree. You might want to try God is not Great by Christopher Hitchens instead, it's a much better anti-religion book.
