There won't be any Ubiquitous 3D Printing.
I don't doubt that many of the/. crowd will someday soon own a 3D printer. But the general population? Not going to happen.
I am just about a geeky as you can get, and not get beaten up for your lunch money as an adult, and I want a 3D printer. But I am not sure why I want one.
Off the top of my head i can think of half a dozen things I could and probably would use a 3D printer to make. But that is the problem. After those items are made, I just can't think of anything else I would want/need to make.
I wonder if at some point there will be 3D printing shops, of perhaps somewhere you can send your file, and have the printed object sent to you. That might work. But Ubiquitous 3D Printing, I very much doubt it will ever happen.
The beauty of capitalism and the profit motive is that if somebody starts making loads of cash in some specific business line, others will see that and rush in to "make their share too". So competition reigns, supply increases and prices go down.
Except that this did not happen.
I live in Canada, pay a very reasonable amount for my health care. I have a sister who moved to California for a job. She has no health care.
My brother and sister both had separate accidents about 2 years ago. My sister fell off a horse, broke some ribs and punctured a lung. My brother had a motorcycle accident, broke his foot, and got a persistent infection that nearly cost him his foot.
My sister went to the hospital, and got out a few days later owing about $150,000.
My brother (In Canada) had a series of operations (6 I think) and treatments over a year. Amount owing $0 Plus a few hundred for prescriptions.
He never waited more than a couple of days for surgery.
It means whatever you want it to mean.
To me it is an attempt to express my distaste toward organized religion.
I was brought up Catholic, I was an alter boy, and seriously considered becoming a priest. Then I started to read, voraciously, and I could not reconcile what I read, with what I heard in church, or what I read in the bible. At this point I started studying various religions, and came to the conclusion that they are all the same. (Details differ, but only details.)
I then pieced together my own set of beliefs that I am happy with.
Not everyone has a choice.
In my case: Housing prices keep me in the suburbs, and the IT jobs that pay are all downtown.
So my choices are a tiny apartment in town, with a short commute, or my house, yard, garage, ETC, out in the burbs with a long commute. I know which one I picked. I would go off the deep end, snap and go on a killing spree if I had to live in the city.
10 years is nothing! Every car made should do at least 10 years.
My Jeep will be 25 this in Dec. My bike is 32.
I just bought a house, and the owners threw in the car that was sitting in the garage. It is 34 years old, and it still runs.
It is a real freak: 1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Coupe Diesel. That car has no business still running.
Do you think Toyota Corollas and such are ugly too?
Yes!!! Also they are almost always driven by people who shouldn't be driving.
Someone tying up traffic, Corolla.
Someone wandering all over the road, Corolla.
Someone diving across 2 lanes of traffic to exit the highway, Corolla.
And that was just on my way to work this morning. Not the same Corolla either.
Because the hope of a lot of people is to have a high quality 3D printer in every home some day.
But it is not going to happen. Some people want one, most people don't. Of the people who do want a 3D printer, most I expect are like me, and think it would be cool. BUT I am sure that if I were to buy a 3D printer tomorrow, I would print about 5 things, then lose interest, and then it would sit in the corner for the next 5 years. I would bet good money most people would have the same usage pattern.
I might risk it if I could get a 3D printer for $250 or so, but they are still much to expensive for me to risk buying one.
This is VERY true. I had an American, ask me to pop over and attend a meeting just outside Toronto. I live an hour outside Vancouver, and in the downtown core.
For any Americans who don't know. Vancouver and Toronto are just under 2100 miles apart. (According to GoogleEarth.)
I asked almost exactly this question many years ago when a friend bought one of the first 1GB drives. Ever since then I have stopped asking that question.
Good rule.
Just to be clear, I don't want this trend to stop. It provides me with immense entertainment. I do think they should be forced to be on a float in the local gay pride parade, with a large banner over their heads explaining their affiliations, and what they were caught doing.
You would think a lot of Republican Senators would be up in arms over this.:)
Every time one of them gets caught with a "rent boy" it warms my heart. Can someone tell me why it is almost always the "Family first" ones that get caught with a male prostitute?
Over the course of "several decades" we all have a pretty good chance of death.
For example, I will be 45 next week. If we take "several decades" to mean 3 decades, then at the end of "several decades" I will be 75 years old. None of the men in my family have lived past 70 so, there is a really good chance that in the next several decades I will be dead.
You don't give up on something just because it isn't perfect.
Just checked your TV. Seriously, you need to stop watching Honey Boo Boo. You have 184 channels and you watch that crap?
Whatever you do don't activate the hidden built in camera!!! There is not enough brain bleach in the world to wash away the image of what he was doing while watching Honey Boo Boo.
I feel so dirty.
You are overlooking the community that has grown up around the Raspberry PI. There are a huge number of people using these boards. The couple of times I have needed an answer to a question I have jumped on their forum, and had an answer in a flash.
Happily, their forum seems to be completely free of the infamous RTFM attitude people so frequently complain about in other Linux forums.
Some of the other boards may be better, but I would bet none have as many people using them.
Thanks for the tip. I figured there was probably someone doing it, but had not gotten around to looking for them.

The US system is fucked! Enjoy your brainwashing.

Is it wrong that I was disappointed that this wasn't a goatse link?
Citation needed... And maybe some example links.

There is only enough blood supply to work one head at a time.
Also:
A hard cock has no conscience.

Dude! Add a Spoiler alert before you let out a secret like that!!!
If the data is valuable, then back it up. A raid may not be enough to save you, as last week taught me.
rsync can be your friend.

I did exactly that. :) Bell Canada gave me a credit toward my Samsung Galaxy S4 for my old iPhone 4

OK, I exaggerate... Slightly. Drop a couple of decimals.
