Copyright was enacted in order to motivate content creators to create content If it takes a long copyright period to motivate creators, then that is what we need.
It should be quite obvious thought that the long copyright we have now are far in excess of what is needed to motivate creative people to create.
I believe that would indeed be legal and not a problem with their monopoly status. Product lock-in has always been legal, even if you have a monopoly on that product.
What you can not do is use your monopoly on one product/market to gain advantages for another product/market. But that would not be the case here.
Funny thing is, I absolute hate Itunes. The only reason to use itunes is to download non-DRM music legally, since I cannot access the amazon store from denmark.
But to actually sync my Ipod or manage my music I use Rhythmbox which lets me transfer any song from any computer to any Ipod whenever I want.
I see this repeated over and over. What is a good alternative to the Ipod then? I have played with some few alternatives and none of them ever came close to being as good as my Ipod Classic.
Mind you, I don't think the Ipod is perfect, there is lots of minor things I wish would be different. But I never found anything that ACTUALLY was better than my Ipod.
So if you know something, please tell me where I can actually get one of these miracle players.
If it has taken 13 years until recently to properly sequence the genome of a single human, how has it been possible to do DNA "fingerprinting" e.g. for crime investigations? Is the actual sequencing not required there?
You are only thinking all this because of ignorance. If you had read a couple of books about psychology, artificial life, evolution etc. you wouldn't cling so much to your belief in magic and fairy tales (which is what it would seem like to you after having read these books).
I'm at work right now and don't have time to come up with a proper list, but I'm sure you'll find something if you really try.
Mind you I can't prove you wrong, but I find other explanations far more likely than yours with having a "soul" whatever that actually is.
DITO - with 8.10 I had to buy a webcam just so I would not get delay on my microphone when skyping. After 9.04 not even that workaround worked any longer. I have since switched to Arch even though that is likely not what I want either. I wish I was a millionaire and had money to hire a dev-team to create a proper linux distro.
I see, thank you very much. That would also suggest that most of the icons representing directories are bad, because what they usually represent is a folder/file in meatspace terms. Am I right?
Hmm, I guess I never really thought about this stuff, but I can see how somebody deeply entrenched in meatspace terminology would have a problem with this. But does that really apply to most people - or won't most people have no problem learning the new meanings?
Would you care to enlighten me on what exactly is the problem? As an experienced computer user I probably don't see the forest for all the trees, so could you please describe what the problem is?
It wouldn't even be Lamarckian. Lamarckian evolution is about offspring acquiring traits that their parents acquired during their own lifetime and by their own doing. For example fat parents getting fat children, war veterans getting children with the same war injuries as their parents etc. My examples are oversimplifications, but Parent post is quite incorrect.
Do you know whether there is a decent tutorial for IntelliJ? The JetBrains guys seem pretty clever, but I tried IntelliJ like a year ago and it was a horrible experience.
I have a long time experience with Visual Studio which I think is simple and intuitive to use. I would like to get away from MS though if I can.
If you can generate this sort of bump map for each of the 6 sides (think a cube) you should be able to generate an actual mesh. At least you'll have the precise 3D location for each pixel, shouldn't be too difficult to create a mesh from that.
You are correct that a certain minimum in graphics can make a very large difference to a game experience. But I have come to the conclusion that gameplay still beats graphics every time. Although I still drool over these shiny new graphics game every single time and I wish my favorite games had better graphics - in the end gameplay is STILL more important to me. Most of the games that I still really enjoy playing are older games. There are some few notable exceptions (e.g. Portal), but they are far between.
You are correct that most people use it that way, I did so myself at first. But I realized that it was a stupid way to drive so I started paying more attention to where I was going again.
I thought that you would interpret my post as defensive, but I didn't really believe it enough to bother writing more clearly. Alas, I should have done so anyway.
I don't mind being corrected and I appreciate the irony and have seen these things happen myself. When it does, I find it funny myself - though of course I was also very slightly annoyed at having made a type myself. I should have acknowledged this point before moving right on to what bothered me myself - the part about not understanding the "anger" directed at so called spelling/gramma nazis.
I appreciate your point about not differentiating between actual typing mistakes and "ignorance" mistakes - I believe there is a good reason to do so anyway though. A mistake made out of ignorance can be corrected by informing the poster. If he wants to bother he can thus avoid making the same mistake in the future. If I don't tell him, he probably can't.
A mistake made due to quick typing cannot be "fixed" by informing me. I won't learn anything new by you pointing it out to me. You may encourage me to type less quickly perhaps, but then again I don't see these typos as a big problem.
The mistake made by me is sort of an intermediate type between these two extremes. I know better and when I don't type quickly I entirely avoid these mistakes or at least correct them. So while it has it's roots in ignorance and bad habits, it is mostly an actual typo.
Finally you are correct with my not being a native english speaker being irrelevant. I suppose I was after some quick sympathy points there. I will try to avoid that in the future:)
Yes - the original half life was a spectacular game and it still is. But you know what? It's not the graphics that did it - at least not by modern standards. And still I enjoy playing that game (both single and multiplayer) a hell of a lot more than pretty much any new game with shiny graphics.
There is a difference between making an error due to quick typing and not grasping/knowing fundamental grammar/spelling concepts. I don't blame anyone for bad spelling, I merely wish to inform them so they have a chance to correct it.
That being said, I have always had the urge to spell the -ful suffix with a double 'l', this one slipped through. But at least I am aware of it and try to fix it.
I don't see why everyone gets mad at people who try to help other people spell/write correctly. If it's not done in a rude fashion, at worst you can ignore it and at best you learn something. Where is the harm in that?
It may not be intruding, but it sure seems like a waste of taxpayer money.
It certainly was not.

Funny thing that cats are still around and new ones keep getting born - what with each and every cat being neutered, right?
Or maybe you're just plain wrong with your assumption.

"your retarded opinions are quite easy to ignore..."
Which you showed brilliantly by replying with your aggressive post. Yeah it didn't bother you the slightest...
you must be new here...

Yes yes, I made plenty of typos again. I shall cease all posting in the future to avoid making more mistakes ;). Curse my lazyness.

You are spot on - too bad I don't have modpoints.

Also - I forgot to say - I'm not a native speaker myself. I try my best though.
