  1. Re:Convergence on Sensor Networks In San Francisco Finds Parking Spots · · Score: 2

I envision the magnetic sensors to be intelligent enough to determine if such a transport were not parked properly and notified parking enforcement. This will ultimately lead to owners of said transports to start parking more efficiently, which means tighter. It's only a formality to hypothesize that tighter parking means more dings on doors, which means more insurance claims, auto repairs, and... you guessed it, more taxis being used. This entire thing was hatched by the cabbies.

People do indeed live out there. But most of the people in the USA don't.

People do more than live here. National park visitors alone bring tens of millions of visitors each year. There's also skiing (6.9 million in 2010-2011 in Colorado alone), transportation (can't drive from NY to LA without passing through 'flyover' country), and a ton of other activities.

Sure, "most" of the people don't live here, but then again "most" of the people still have a significant interest in what happens here since this is where they come when they get sick of the crowds on the coast.

Negligible is simply a matter of scale.

A couple hundred years ago, the effects from burning fossil fuels in a few industrially advanced population centers around the world were negligible. Today, not so much.

Our current understanding of global climate is too inadequate to make this practical.

By the time troops are ordered, deployed, and stationed, the local climate would have already changed leaving our troops with inappropriate supplies.

Instead, I suggest that we simply choose a few places that appear desirable and invade. That way we can set up proper infrastructure and build more permanent housing to accommodate the influx of population.

It's mostly run by a state organization anyway, they're just associated with NOAA, which lives in Boulder.

And that's fine if Federal dollars don't help to support a system that benefits all the out-of-state tourists that come here. We'll just start charging additional taxes/fees/etc for anyone arriving from out of state to come skiing, the same way we do when we charge out-of-state tourists an arm and a leg when they come here to hunt and fish.

Sweet. Because, honestly, I'm kinda not liking losing the awesome updated topo maps provided by the USGS... not to mention the NWS/NOAA offices that provide weather, avalanche info, etc. I'm not ready to lose those, so it's a good thing the experienced employees already live here.... just waiting to be hired by Colorado.
