You guys are completely missing the point. Apple is dictating what hardware you can use with it. Sure, there needs to be SOME standard, but why not include USB ports? I know the specs of the device, it's got all kinds of cool things, it just seems ridiculous to not include USB ports. The only thing that makes sense is that they want you to buy their pricey accessories to go with it. Same Apple as always.
Tell me what the user gains by not having access to USB ports. Now tell me what Apple gains.
It is exactly this type of customer/manufacturer relationship that turns people off of Apple. Even my girlfriend, who is not computer-savvy at all (but is, in fact, a very bad-ass cardiac nurse), read some article about the iPad this morning, and scoffed at the fact that there are no USB ports. "How do you type, with some touch screen thing? Can't you just plug in a regular keyboard?"
Growing up in Fremont, it became quickly apparent to me that there are a lot of crooks there. Seeing that IPEX was based there does not surprise me. On the edge of Silicon Valley, huge foreign population, a lot of well-educated people, and most of all, the opportunity to rip people off.
I hate to be stereotypical, but I would wager my home desktop that I could profile these cons with a pretty good degree of accuracy.
To the point where someone who was witnessed by many people attempting to blow up a jetliner is subsequently referred to as "the alleged" or as taking actions "supposedly".
Due process is a great thing, don't get me wrong. It does, however, create great opportunity for criminals to avoid justice.
And to some degree, don't we already do shit like this in the states, too?
Of course we do. Except that instead of invoking a form of vigilante justice, we have mothers cooperating with daughters to play pranks on innocent children who end up dying from shame. I, for one, welcome our new vigilante overlords.
It's clearly Apple vs. Google vs. Everyone else as it is. A couple of computer companies came up with novel and interesting ways to sell software on phones and now you have all the phone companies freaking out trying to figure out how to do the same thing and still compete.
Their business is telephones, not software. There really isn't any other choice the telecoms have. They know they'll be more effective working together and pooling talent, but will they deliver? I'm sure most people doubt their ability to come up with an answer, but you never know...
But really this is important when you look at the complete mayhem computer security is now. I understand that there will always be inherent risks, but some foresight and common sense (which I don't think are too much to ask from people as brilliant as TFA refers) goes a long way.
Let this be a lesson for those of the next generation. Anticipate problems and work on fixing them without having to tell a soul.
but why would the meteorite crystal be likely to have a near perfect structure.
Becaaaaaaause.... it's sciency and natural and stuff. Man still marvels at how cool a little robotic dog is, yet completely takes for granted stuff like the human heart and it's absurdly complex level of bioengineering.
Well, you're like, entitled to your own opinion, man.
But, if you think about it, you've just outlined some of the processes that drive innovation.
It's okay to work on things that are before their time, or not before their time and simply a dead end road. Otherwise, what have you learned?
Does the laser have to be in the sky? Is ground-basing and bouncing it around okay? A laser cage would probably also help in asteroid defense someday.
You'll have my laser, Chris, and you'll have it by mid-May.
You're speaking more of Agnostics, who openly declare that they are idiots. It's not uncommon for things to exist that we simply do not understand.

There is pizza and drinks in the lunch room. Come help yourselves.
Virtualization much?
They must have mistaken you for a real troll. The packaging was too believable.

Some of us prefer the ol' in-out.
I'm not sure I understand why you think public humiliation in cases where people do despicable things is bad.

Getting old is required. Growing up is optional.

Another unintended effect of Fox News, is left-wing 'bleeding-hearts' assuming all those right-wing 'patriots' are influenced by Fox News.
Heck, you can create a serial interface from discrete components if you're really into fun.
Sounds pretty fun to me.
When I first heard Coloradoans pronounce Buena Vista, I immediately wondered why Pueblo wasn't pronounced Pube-low.

Accessing the personal records is often the goal, is it not?
Sure, having access to passwords and stuff is nice, but it's kind of just the stepping stone towards finding the real information.
Mod parent... oh.

You're young, you've got your health, what you want with a job?
That corner is already full. The best available spots are run by Drexel, but if you like Chinese food, black eyes, and 70's pron, you'll be just fine.
