Look at Seagate's site. OEM or not, they won't help you for shit. They only put up the firmware because of their recent issue with defective drives. It was so widespread they had no other choice. (And guess what, they're putting up firmware for OEM drives too.)
Seems to me I flashed my shitty ExcelStore (SATA) drive within Windows. Oh, and my DVD drives (both IDE and SATA). And from Seagate's site: "The firmware update utility runs from Windows: ".
So what we have is Seagate has shitty firmware options and disclosure, shitty support, and recently had an issue so bad they were forced to publicly offer up firmware (without forcing people to open a support ticket).
SeaTools has a terrible time working with any of their SATA drives because they never update the drivers on the damned thing to work with modern chipsets. This isn't opinion, it's a simple fact.
Seagate offers no Windows-based utility to flash the firmware on a drive. This is a fact.
Seagate doesn't offer public downloads for firmware (unless it's a HUGE problem, like they had with their 1.5 TB drives recently) - you have to go through tech support and open a ticket and wait. Fact.
Seagate doesn't provide change logs of any sort for firmware updates. Fact.
1: LOL Tom's Hardware. The most money-hatted review site ever.
2: LOL your "statistic" is a forum poll, with 88 votes. All you're seeing is which brand is more popular. (Hint: Seagate is cheaper than WD.)
3: Physical reliability is not the issue here. Ever try to get a firmware update from Seagate? Or a changelog if you manage to get a firmware update? Ever try to get SeaTools to work? Seagate simply has terrible support and documentation. But they're cheaper, so Apple and others choose them.
But who am I to judge? We're moving backwards in so many areas, opting for cheap, politically acceptable, "green", and in general appealing to the dumb masses instead of going for quality.
Power? No nuclear for you. No hydroelectric for you. Try natural gas, another non-renewable, inefficient, stinky ass resource that needs a huge infrastructure. Try solar panels, the production of which will never be offset throughout the life of the panel. In the meantime, keep burning that coal!
Cars? Diesel is a dirty word. Better discourage that. Instead we'll strain the electrical grid with plug-in electrics and make all the regular cars run on corn to give them shittier mileage and performance.
TVs? CRTs may be the best display by far if you want any sort of picture quality. But let's push for shitty LCDs and plasmas. Do you know how much it costs to ship CRTs from China?
Schoolin'? Don't worry, little Timmy might be a fucking moron, but no child will ever be left behind.
Economy? If we just keep spending, we can fix anything.
Space shuttle? It's a piece of shit, but let's keep it for a few more years. After all, otherwise we'd be stuck using the RUSSIAN'S spaceships for our pointless dickings around in high-orbit-but-not-quite-outer-space.
802.11n? What, you mean you want it now? But we're still reviewing the draft! Go buy a draft-compatible router and hope we don't change the specs and that it isn't a piece of shit.

Congratulations, I guess.
You already brain damage.
Blasphemy.
You get your sound reasoning out of here.
Come back when you've stocked up on lies, hyperbole, and FUD.
Shooting people with paintball guns is as much of a task as shooting skeet.
Seagate? Maxtor? Quantum?
All the same, dude.

That whole damned town is just set up to inconvenience poor Professor Layton.
How is shooting skeet not playing with guns?
2 fucking weeks at Disneyland/world?
Sounds like you were asking for a trip from hell.
2 days, maybe. Maybe.

It's Apple's responsibility to pick non-shitty vendors.
Seagate is a shitty vendor.
Your mother obstructs my view of the south, you insensitive clod!
I don't need an unobstructed view of the south, you insensitive dingo!
Etc.
If it was one giant log, fear.
If it was a bunch of smaller turds, laughter.
I am completely serious.
My rotary phone begs to differ.
Can't they just throw a few bucks at the SEO scumbags and call it a day?

Ah, but when the result is simply fines and no real change to the operation of the company...
Damned external forces.
Gravity.
Atmospheric pressure.
Radiation pressure from the light of your mackbook pro's lcd.
I thought the reality distortion field was supposed to block such harmful forces.
Japan is Western now?
I always knew East vs. West was bullshit, since the earth is spherical.
But at least stick to your own fucking definitions.
The cell phone app?
You mean, when you use the FUCKING PHONE as a FUCKING PHONE?
On a side note, I think I need a new phone.
Mine is starting to get hot whenever I make calls. Never used to before.
Li-Ion batteries suck ass. NIMH is far superior.

Communications infrastructure?
Roads/bridges/trains/etc?
The EU smells money.
Will Apple escape? Or will the EU leech off of them endlessly like they do with MS?
Some of us would prefer microSD for up-butt shoving.
To each his own, though.

Yes.
