Until, of course, the same programmers who are creating these rather sophisticated botnets modify the application you just described to make it infect the computer it is run on. This would allow them to infect those computers which were safe from the original trojan.
Except at some point in all MMOs everyone is at level cap or leveling up their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th alt who are going to be twinked to hell anyway and therefore won't need the handouts of said 37th level fighter.
Wow, you got me. I am trolling because I am posting my true experiences with oh-so-evil M$'s currently-most-hated OS versus the current champion of open source, free operating systems.
I am not trying to champion, nor shill for, Mr. Gates & Co. Neither am I trying to take a giant shit on Linux/Ubuntu, which I happen to like, but don't get a chance to use as much as I like due to my work needing to be done exclusively in Windows.
If they can't be trusted to not double-click on an xxxxx.jpg.exe file in an email, they are likely to have problems with identity theft and other non-Windows-exclusive security issues. The fact that this still happens can be directly attributed to Windows not showing file extensions for known file types.
Stop the insanity!
I understand that this is not the forum for this, but this intrigued me. I would love to dual boot between Linux and Windows, but don't want to lose everything that I already have on my Windows box. Would it be possible for me to Ghost my existing Windows machine, format and create the dual-boot, and then reimage what I had to my new Windows partition?
I only wonder because I don't know how well Ghost would handle the disk size changes.
...but it still takes effort, almost as much as it does to keep up a Windows box. I'm sorry, but give me a break. What effort is required to keep up a Windows XP box for gaming? I swear, sometimes you guys just crack me the fuck up. I must be the one exception to the accepted rule of Windows users. I have never had a virus, never had a bot installed, only ever had one serious driver issue and that was because I was using a really off-market audio card for multi-channel audio recording in Win98, and never had a BSOD that wasn't my fault by doing something incredibly stupid in some code.
At some point you need to realize that FUD is slung from both camps, except the OSS community simply seems to be far more vitriolic.
I love the idea of Linux and FOSS, but I doubt I will ever fully embrace the culture due to the users that I have come into contact with, both here and at various user groups I have attended.
Maybe the track that the train was originally on only connects to the other track when the switch is set one way. It may have simply run out of track. Then WTF do I know? I only pretend to drive choo-choos when playing 18xx.
AMD should mimic GMT (http://www.gmtgames.com/t-GMTLivingRules.aspx/) and release Living Cores. That way, whenever errata are posted, we can just grab the latest version of the core for free and continue on our merry way.
Interesting enough, some games have 'hardcore' options : dying is dying. What about them? How do PC versions of these games prevent the single player from ghosting back to an old savegame? I may very well be off the mark here, but I think that in the case of Diablo II, there was a server side save of your character so that you couldn't do that.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
[..]the general principle (that pretty much what we use it for is to hide stuff we shouldn't be doing) was about right. I completely disagree with this premise. Privacy, personal space, and the non-invasion of unwanted and unknown others into my life are extremely precious to me and extremely difficult to find in today's overcrowded world.
By saying that I only use my privacy to hide illegal or 'immoral' activity is total crap. Is taking a shit while reading a book wrong? No. Do I want people to be able to watch me? Hell no. Same goes for having a private conversation with my girlfriend about her bad day at work, sitting in a comfy chair and disappearing into some great music on my headphones, or even jerking off to porn if it suits my fancy. No one else should be privy to that.
Is a more 'open' society what we really want? I don't believe so. The less I know about the randoms out there the better, as most of them would probably just piss me off or make me sick to my stomach. If some idiot wants to put everything they ever do online and others want to watch their every move, label them as the exhibitionist/voyeurs that they are and be done with it. Don't use it as a rallying cry to try and make society more 'open' as if this would suddenly cause world-peace.

Hahahahaha. That's rich. Keep drinking that Kool-Aid, son.
...shit. When I installed the update, it asked me if I wanted to make it my default browser, which I chose not to do.
Please get your facts straight before you bash MS, that most hated of companies.

No. You are only a troll.

True story - my HP laptop has had 0 issues with wireless and Vista.
Yup, you heard right, runs like a champ.
It streams media with no hitches to my XBox360 while downloading large files and/or torrents from the Internet.
I never lose connection.
I did lose connection several times running Ubuntu on my girlfriend's laptop...
Guess I'm that elusive 0.1% percent that has had no issues with this most horrible of operating systems.
I wouldn't mod you as 'insane' for liking the Zune. I have a Zune and like it quite a bit more than any iPod I've ever used.
Got any proof to back that up with a 1-to-1 hardware comparison?
Coffee doesn't make you fat!

Mod me down - whatever.
I used to feel as you did. Then I realized that it was just that .NET 1.1 sucked. 2.0 is much better.

Actually, just re release the 1st edition rulebooks so these youngsters know what real men used to play.
