I have a Samsung moment phone it sucks. So did my last Samsung (non-smart) phone. I can keep my apps and move to an HTC or Motorola phone.
My sister and her husband have Windows Mobile phones. My sister's was horrible, her husbands was great. She switched over, no loss.
Now, one of my friends has an iPhone. He hates it, but has a lot of apps for it. He doesn't want to re-buy similar apps on another phone. So he has to stick with the iPhone, or re-buy the apps.
But given the original complaint was about computer science being all algorithms, it can be inferred that the comment was more regarding abstract vs. functional education related to algorithms. Theory vs. Application, the math vs. words and concepts.
If you think about it for a moment, you will see that it is kind of silly that you're only taken seriously if you tie a strip of cloth around your neck tight enough to slightly restrict blood flow to your brain.
Usually they aren't tied that tight.
As far as non-offensive, it does help with first impressions - can you show signs of restraint and putting effort into *something*
It doesn't always translate, but the general opinion is, if you can't do that with your attire/appearance, you won't do that with your job.
Actually, the individuals I referenced are also the individuals I know who cycle between jobs fairly frequently, so, at least anecdotaly, that stereotype isn't so bad.
Where I went to college, only about a quarter of the BS in Computer Science was algorithm development. The rest was understanding the concepts behind how the hardware and OS worked. Both parts could be considered in-part algorithms - maybe bringing algorithms up to half of the BS, but it went beyond that.
It's amazing the number of people who cannot understand what kind of outfits a business person will take seriously. I've seen people with spiky hair, piercings and tatoos all over, and baggy/ripped/faded outfits unable to comprehend how someone could not take them seriously.
Then again - relaxed dress code here:
No holes where there shouldn't be holes
Must wear Shoes that cover your toes, Skirt or Pants (trousers for those of you in the UK) and a Shirt
If you increase the duration of being able to collect unemployment from 6 months to 12 - and at any given time the number of people for any given duration of time since they've had a job (i.e. 1% for 1 month, 2% for two months, 1% for 3 months...) remains constant, unemployment rantes will go up, but the number of people not working, the actual important number, will remain the same.
Several of the items clearly demonstrate belief in incorrect information (the last four items listed are good examples), but there were several that aren't so simple, two in particular:
# 91 percent believe the stimulus legislation lost jobs # 72 percent believe the economy is getting worse
1) For the first - you cannot know what would happen if the stimulus was not put in place - more investing could occur, and more people could have gotten jobs. In my opinion - the stiumulus probably did more good than harm in the job front, but I certainly can't say the for certain until I get access to an alternative universe that was identical up until the stimulus legislation.
2) The second one - Again, there are many ways of estimating the economy, some will suggest better, some will suggest worse. The unemployment index, IMHO, is garbage, especially when the timeframe you can obtain unemployment increases. This is probably what they are basing it on, and the increase in unemployment actually matches quite well with the increase in time people can receive unemployment benefits. Still with something as complex as the economy, better or worse can very easily be in the eye of the beholder. So, this is also quite subjective.
uhhh. I thought that was the channel for insipid reality shows, wrestling, horror, fantasy, on occasion, bad science fiction and very rarely, decent to good science fiction.
I thought "the cloud" was "the cluster", but with a billing model based on disk/cpu[/memory] used in a given timeframe, and these values being easily dynamically allocable during a given time frame.
Interesting. About a year ago, ATI/AMDs web site didn't have any notebook card drivers (or at least, any for recent chips?). Now they have 4xxx, which covers my card. That's a nice change.
nVidia has had Generic drivers since the GeForce256 days, which is before ATi, which, IIRC didn't have generic drivers until after the Radeons came out (and I believe, not even the early Radeons had them until later)
I still get No FrameBuffer errors and flickering in my AMD based video card, which I don't get on my nVidia. I can only expect driver errors.
That, and with notebooks, unless things have changed, you don't need driver hacks to use nVidia drivers on nVidia cards in notebooks, but you do for AMD.
Each generation (first number) has different features.
A good example.
Lets say you have a few cards:
Card 1: OpenGL 2.0 compatible, has a performance of [2] on OpenGL 2.0 applications Card 2: OpenGL 2.0 compatible, has a performance of [4] on OpenGL 2.0 applications
Card 3: OpenGL 2.1 compatible, has a performance of [1] on OpenGL 2.0 applications and a performance of [3] on OpenGL 2.1 applications Card 4: OpenGL 2.1 compatible, has a performance of [3] on OpenGL 2.0 applications and a performace of [4] on OpenGL 2.1 applications
Card 5: OpenGL 3.0 compatible, has a performance of [1.5] on OpenGL 2.0, [2.5] on OpenGL 2.1 and [2] on openGL 3.0. Card 6: OpenGL 3.0 compatible, has a performance of [3.5] on OpenGL 2.0, [3.5] on OpenGL 2.1 and 5 on OpenGL 3.0
Figure the the performance ratings have some arbitrary unit, and higher means better. How do you name this cards logically, and informatively in a manner simpler than what is already done? It's about as simple as it gets. The first number says which cards you can do a straight comparison with, the remaining numbers give comparisons. The larger the difference in the first number, the less accurate comparisons of the remaining numbers will be.
Or they could make a nice 10 digit number - each digit giving a rough performance rating covering the most recent 1-2 minor revisions in OpenGL or DirectX and one each for the major revision aggregate performance. That wouldn't be easier to read for most people, and it'd still miss a lot of data.
That, and the menus don't seem *quite* right for a controller. I still play with keyboard/mouse (only annoying) after trying controller (borderline unplayable except for targeting in combat, where the controller does seem MUCH better).
And looking at the mods, I have to wonder, how was my previous post a troll?
I'll have to second your comment. Occasionally there is some lag in combat, but even in the FFXIV beta, it was not significantly worse than any other MMO I've played (AC 1, WoW, Eve, FFXI).
Got to agree with the GPs comments about minimal quests so far, and grindfest.
The only "Ultimate" deterrent would be to make it impossible to produce the currency for less than the value of the currency.
I do because I don't like part of the credit card companies business model, and would rather pay cash when possible.
Not looking, creating
maybe that's his goal - one more piece of evidence that online news is a bad idea?
No, but we'll take me as an example here.

and if you do end up getting one, and deciding to leave, you are fairly well locked in.
It really is a bit of both...
But given the original complaint was about computer science being all algorithms, it can be inferred that the comment was more regarding abstract vs. functional education related to algorithms. Theory vs. Application, the math vs. words and concepts.
Come on.
Usually they aren't tied that tight.

Correct

That about sums it up.
That was my point.

Umm... I saw that stockpile mentioned on one of ABC/CBS/NBC (can't remember which), CNN and BBCA.
They just weren't considered WMDS in the clips.
If you are going to make a criticism of a group, at least get your facts straight on what they do/don't say.
I'm curious why CNN and CSPAN weren't on there. They have evening news programs.

In general:
Look at the first digit: That tells you the feature set.
Look at the remaining digits, that tells you the performance.
Within the same feature set - higher set usually (always?) means higher performance.
When comparing between feature sets, similar "performance" numbers are usually only slightly slower the next set down.
