I really don't think Linux is going anywhere in 2008. What did they say this year?? Year of Desktop or something right.. but I didn't see any momentum at any place. I gave up the last Suse installed PC I had. I didn't see anyone in my office switched to Linux.. or any of my clients.
Linux is so stupid. I don't know how those geeks feel, but I am sure they are the most useless idiots on the face of earth. Sure.. they have nothing else to do other than wrestling with Linux. No wonder why they are the most unproductive people on earth.
Linux has no future for sure. See.. how many distros ?? How many incompatibilities with hardware ??? how many kernal updates every week ???
Linux sure got some momentum on academia. Well... to be frank.. its not because they really like. Only because they want to escapre from paying volume-licenses. Furthremore, there are linux idiots who worship linux OS, who monopolize linux-OS in their domain.
Overall.. I think Linux community should give up their efforts and must try to learn some lessons from M$ and either help Windows to be better OR do something like Windows for FREE. Afterall.. true power of linux can not be executed without being a linux-geek.. who knows all the command line commands and some degree of linux kernal modding... that's pathetic.
I have a friend in prague. Instead of texting from my phone, I just go to the VODAFONE web site, where I can send, pretty much e-mail long text messages for no charge at all. This is cool... virtually.. you don't have to bother about credit limits, if you run out, you can go online and send SMS in an emergency.
I also find it ridiculous to charge all the incoming stuff. Come on... its like early days in Stamp Postage, where receiver should pay the stamp charges... which discouraged people and made it a key factor for general public to refrain using postal system.
1. Sometimes luggageable and heavy 2. Battery is not enough (specially if 3D cards integrated) 3. Battery die fast and quite rare to find (even you find, it gonna cost a bomb) 4. Its hard to use it on a desk top (arms start to get pain) 5. Hard to use it all day long (keyboard isnt that ergonomatic) 6. Synthetic pad gonna suck when working for so long (gonna need a mouse, definitley) 7. Gaming experience, not that great 8. Future software gonna be intolerably slow 9. Can't upgrade HDD (USB external HDD would be an options) 10. Lack of processing power (you gonna really feel it in softwares like MATLAB) 11. USB ports usually at wrong place 12. Heat flow is usually not good (leaves burn patches on lap) 13. Fragile, prone to problems in long run 14. Cannot revive much for future laptop/computer 15. Need a technician to troubleshoot 16. Hard to find a laptop with the combination of hardware you require
Pros
1. Portability (useful if you are a nomad) 2. Less power hungry 3. Easy to install OS, find hardware drivers (compared to desktops/servers) 4. Good to use on lap when watching TV 5. Pretty much everything is integrated (keyboard, webcam, wifi, network card, modem etc.) 6. Space saving 7. Quite good for movie watching, web surfing and all the light/leisurey tasks which you can do at your bedroom 8. Removed all the legacy stuff (like PS2, LPT... sometimes.. it is a bad idea too)
My first digital camera was a Casio one with resolution 320x240 (back in 1997). It was an era still film cameras are mainstream. However, it was fairly bad camera in all measures.
Which then followed by an Olympus 1.3 MP camera in 2000. Which was really good, a quantum leap compared to my previous one.
Then I got my next one in 2005, Canon Powershot 510 (4MP). It is a good one with lot of features. But I always get its lens covering shutter damaged.. too delicate and exposed to outside.
Boss : What the f*** are you doing, its half past 10 ???

Boss : Why the f*** on earth you waste time on drawing childish drawing on a Monday morning ???
Employee : I am trying to log in to my f***ing computer you moron...
When I was an undergraduate student, I find it really hard to get certain definitions to words even theories. Simply because, most books try to explain things in chapters rather trying to give a good definition in a brief paragraph, then explaining. This is a major problem when it comes to citing in a research paper. This is why need something like Wikipedia.
Also it would be a great exercise for students. Over the years, due to demanding competition (at least in asia), students became more and more selfish. So I expect this movement help in sharing the knowledge in one way or another.
Furthremore, this would be a good exercise for future researchers. Regardless how good you do research, at the end of the day, you got to publish it.
When I was a kid, I went to this circus where a dog could do simple nemerical calculations, which leads to answer of a single digit number (i.e. 1-10).
Small plates with printed number (1-10) are displayed in a circle, once the dogs are commanded to pick a number, dog does it. When a calculation is given, dog will go around few times then pick the number, which is the answer.
I am not sure how they trained those dogs. But I observed, that sometimes, dogs tend to pick the wrong number.
how did marie curie died ??? She didn't explode materials with radiation.. she was doing experiments for so long with radiation materials.
