    A good PC keyboard at that time alone was north of $100. However it was a good, quality keyboard and not permanently built into a cheap plastic consumer grade device like a commie or amiga.

    I, on the other hand, was unimpressed with the locked down propritary designs from a single source supplier that Commodore sold out of department stores to consumers.

    3-1/2" disks are demontratably less reliable. The open air enclosure and shutter door act as a lint trap. Users are encouraged by the physical design to carry the disk around loose and unprotected. Whereas a 5-1/4" diskette transferred from the drive to a tyvek sleeve is sealed from the elements much better. For the kind of tard who leaves a diskette exposed out of the sleeve, perhaps a 3" disk is nominally better.

    Computers constructed out of clusters of ASICs are a stopgap measure to compensate for slow central processors, and not "ahead of their time."

    It's more the kind of propietary design a company would engage in to attain an "edge" in a market. A way to get a multimedia entertainment computer out ahead to consumers.

    I used to use Microsoft's "Streets and Trips" software which came self contained on a few CD-ROMs that I installed on my pc. When I wanted to go somewhere I would laser print a few maps. No internet connection even needed on the pc.

    I have every GBC and GBA rom on my phone. They are small enough to just have every one in a folder on the removable SD card.

    Indeed. I have gameboys that are ancient and were owned by destructive little kids for probably their virst decade. They've held up and protected the electronics inside. It's nice, in this era of modern mobile hardware, to have replaced the display windows with hardened glass.

    I wouldn't exactly call it a 'government' of Saudi Arabia, though they have had a long successful history of pulling it off. Saud is a family name. It's just a dynasty of arabs who have garnered a lot of support from rich western interests. For a long time now.

    I'm a nerd, so I've collected all editions of Tanenbaum. I don't run Minix regularly, but I have it and run it sometimes.

    The original Minix booted off floppy diskettes and would run on an IBM PC-XT, by the way.

    Why an old iPod Touch? You can get a no-contract current Android phone for under $30 without even looking hard. For less if you shop around a bit. They work fine on wi-fi to set up whatever is needed.
