    Several years ago I was able to receive in Miami, a great signal from a 1KW transmitter located in Rome, NY...AM band, 1530khz I think...

    Also, during that same period, I was able to get both sides of a baseball game between Detroit and Baltimore, on their local AM stations...WTOP out of DC I think and I don't remember the Detroit station...My logs are at home in a closet...

    Thois has been an issue since day 1 of SirCam (six days now) and Symantec still has yet to acknowledge it.

    Not true.

    They may not have acknowledged it on the forum, but on the phone with them yesterday they told me they knew about the problem and were working to fix it.

    In the meantime, we have limited our attachment sizes to 64K, which will not allow the Worm to be transtitted by email.

    I can assure you that the Norton AV Corporate Edition plugins for Exchange Server caught and quarantined quite a few messages in our site and those we manage. We've seen no evidence of infection on any of the PCs.

    That might be a false sense of security you've got there...

    Our NAV Gateway has been letting copies through on a random basis, trapping only about 10% of the virus', and Symantec has admitted they know about this problem to us, on the phone.

    So, don't be so sure you're protected.

    As a precaution, we've limited our attachment sizes to 64K, this seems to stop 100% of the virii...

    I don't agree.

    Inherent value implies utility.

    What utility does gold have besides as a medium of exchange? If I (or anyone) place no artificial value on gold (ie. 1 gram of gold is equal to 1 hour of my labor or 1 Kilo of grain) then it has NO VALUE whatsoever to me.

    Gold has value currently because we all agree that it does.

    Without that agreement, gold is more worthless than paper.

    At least information can be recorded and stored on paper...

    Fact. Gold's Value, gold is a "hedge".
    Hedge against what? Hedge against civilization, the US government, the Global economic system,
    or whatever, from falling apart tomorrow.


    As many people have mentioned previously, Gold has no more inherent value than paper money.
    Gold has value becuse someone says it does.

    Food has more inherent value than Gold because you need it to survive.

    You don't NEED gold for anything, therefore it has no inherent value.
    If civilization colapses I'd rather have a basement full of gardening supplies than gold.

    And, if you were to come around my place with nothing but gold to trade, you'd be turned away hungry...

    The company does.
    The company pays the bills, so the company makes the rules.

    And, speaking as one of those lazy IT folks, I'll tell you, when I start getting phone calls at 3am from a know-nothing user because he can't print, I don't give a flying f#%k what this loser thinks about our computing environmrnt.

    He is a member of the IPCC, the International Panel on Climate Change, an United Nations institute like Unesco. He showed hard data and science, and there is no doubt about it: the climate is indeed changing.

    Wrong!

    Over the last several weeks the IPCCs recently published paper has been blown out of the water by a lot of real scientists.

    Not being a real scientist myself, I'll have to point you to this site, which has links to more hard science about Global Warming than you can shake a stick at...

    Anything that can be done to make it more useful, or at least less annoying, should be welcomed.

    I like the idea of being able to provide feedback to the advertizers. If we don't have the ability to do that, how can we expect them to change?

    I've been on the 'Net since 1987, so I know what it was like before the Web and all the commercial crap. In a lot of ways the 'Net has become much more useful, even though a lot of things have been lost in the process.

    We can't put the genie back in the bottle, people. So, we might as well learn to work within the system to get the changes we want...

    At a law firm I worked for a few years ago, we used PCAnywhere for Remote Admin on our Win95 desktops. Our offices were scattered along the east coast and PCAnywhere made helping anyone on our WAN a piece of cake. Others have mentioned that you should "Teach a man to fish" and I agree. Remote Admin does not stand in the way of that goal. On the contrary, it is a tool to facilitate training. You can watch what the user is doing and then correct them from thousands of miles away. Not to mention that using Remote Admin you can do a lot of work that would otherwise require travel. So, you can save on training and travel, 2 of the most expensive things in the IT budget.

    I'm the Postmaster for a large State agency. We also have a 24/7 commitment for our e-mail system (Netscape on NT)... I think our on-call compensation is decent, probably the best of anywhere I've been. I carry the pager every third week. I get 8 hours of "comp time", that I can use aas I see fit, regardless of whether I get a call or not. If I have to drive to the office I am compensated for my round trip travel time as well as my on-site time. Not too shabby...Gives me an extra 2 weeks of vacation (more or less) per year... MadMorf

    Other than as a defense against against Van Eck phreaking, how is this related to copy protection?
    Are crackers/phreakers currently recording the signals coming out of your video cards and posting them on the 'Net?
    This seems like a solution looking for a problem.

    Netware (as a file and print server) and NDS are nice. However, I recommend that everyone run screaming from Groupwise (Novell's E-mail system).

    I beg to differ. I have been managing GroupWise systems since 1992 (it was called Word Perfect Office at that time) and in my opinion GW is the best enterprise e-mail platform around. It scales incredibly well...I have had GW systems with over 25,000 users. The current versions are fully integrated with NDS. The damn thing is bomb-proof. If you're having problems with it drop me a line and I'll help you out...
