Based on this argument, then, the govt. could seize your snail mail with out a warrant on the same basis. i.e. you're putting your correspondence in the hands of a third party. If anything, e-mail should be more inviolate because, it's not in any type of physical format that's "passing through the hands of a third party"
While it's true that there will be false positives, as well as false negatives, you don't convict someone, or have a lung removed, without further testing. When I was diagnosed for cancer, I was tested and re-tested to verify that there was, indeed, cancer. The same goes with screening for terrorists, or anything else. Did the article mention the rate for false negatives as well? After all, if you have a five pound tumor hanging off you face, and your doctor tells you there's nothing wrong, I'd definitely want a second opinion!
Why not just weld a one inch thick, five foot wide chunk of metal all the way around the ship, along with a rounded three to five foot diameter tube along the rails to prevent grapples from finding a purchase?
Well, lawyers have to pass the bar exam for each state they want to practice in, as well as to argue before the Supreme Court. Accountants have to take either the CPA or CMA exam, or both. All of these are certifications accepted as being "tests" before employment. "IT professionals" really have no similar professional certification. Oh, sure, network engineers have the Cisco testing, which is excellent for them. MCSE and all certs that Microsoft offer are crap, and not a real test of anyone's ability to provide technical support to end users.
I guess it depends what what sort of "IT professional" you are.
Unless there's a genetic predisposition for auto accidents, do what the insurance companies already do and charge more for coverage for people that have a lot of auto accidents. Let the free markets handle it.
Also, just because you have the genetic markers for a disease, it doesn't mean you'll get the disease. Besides, the actuarial tables are pretty darn spot on when it comes to figuring out how many people are likely to get a disease in the first place. This just focuses the numbers better.
On the other hand, if you have no genetic markers for a disease, you can then opt to not have any coverage at all, saving you a ton of money.
Not that any of this matters, because global warming is going to turn us all into cannibals and we're all going to die anyway. Now, if only it'd get to warming... I'm getting tired of scraping ice off my windshield in the middle of spring.
Gonzo "I'm going to live forever... or die trying!"
So, what's the big deal? I can get a subscription to any number of private satellite services that offer the same information on my neighbors, or anyone else I care (or have the time) to surveil. And as for personal information, all I have to do is scan the wireless networks around me to find out anything else I want to know about my neighbors. At least government has to follow rules and get warrants, even for the jihadi freaks living on American soil that want to kill us in the name of the religion of peace.
This reminds me of the parable of the starving (insert currently fashionable impoverished group) Darfurian that came to America because (insert non-gender specific politically correct pronoun) he wanted to see a fat poor person.
If you're going to have laws about road rage, you also need to have a Dumb Ass law. After all, get rid of the obliviot going 50 mph in the fast lane and road rage incidents will decrease dramatically.
If the article takes the statement out of context and doesn't even give or link to where you can find the full text of what he said, how can you claim the statement (or the speaker) is clueless? To me, or any objective observer, it seems that the person that's actually clueless is the one reaching a conclusion based on incomplete or flawed information or data.
So, Bush had eight months from election to Sept. 11th. Clinton had eight years to do something about UBL. Maybe if he'd spent less time chasing skirts and Big Macs he'd have been an effective president
"Is it a basic right to be allowed to receive e-mail from whomever I desire, or does Comcast have the right to censor as they wish?"
I don't know about that. More likely it's the same as living at home. You're abiding by someone elses rules, like it or not.
I do know, however, that you retain the basic right to stop using Comcast. You also have the basic right to setup your own ISP, etc., if you think you're being treated unfairly.
Instead of making it so that the most populous states get to decide who gets to be President (thereby effectively disenfranchising everyone in Alaska, Maine, Vermont, etc.), why not use the Electoral College the way it's supposed to be? Each state gets electors based on the number of house reps they have, plus two senators. For Alaska, that's three. For California, that's a lot. Therefore, whoever wins the congressional district, gets that electoral vote. The winner of the state then gets the two "bonus" votes. That way, the emphasis is shifted away from the large states and population centers, and back out to where all the people live, not just New York, Cali, Florida and Ohio.
when a good number of high school grads can't find north america on a map, you can't possibly tell me that we're getting a quality education for our tax dollars. Get govt. out of the education business, fire the crappy teachers, and give a raise to the ones that are good.
GTA is already rated "M" for mature, right? Unless there's a higher rating than that from the ESRB (XXX?), what difference does it make? Parents shouldn't be buying this game for their kids if it's rated that way. The content shouldn't/doesn't matter at that level. And if the parents are buying it for their kids, they should shut the frell up and stop whining
How much will it cost to improve the fuel economy of autos? How much will it increase the cost of the auto?
How much of a tax credit? Have you priced solar panels lately? How well do they work north of 30 N latitude?
Ethanol and methanol still produce greenhouse gases as a by product. No net gain there.
Biofuels also produce greenhouse gases.
Ending the war in Iraq won't have any effect on this.
It must be nice to live in your world where, the government pays for everything and everything happens with just a wave of the magic government mandate. For adults however, there's a trade off for everything. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
There's only one way to make solar power work for Planet Earth: Space based solar. You have to get the collectors up above the clouds.
Everyone whines about greenhouse gases and acid rain. We've had the means to end this for the last 50 years: Nuclear energy. No greenhouse gas is produced. Yet, no one wants this in their backyard either. Too bad. Grow up. Once we have our energy needs solved by space based solar and nuclear power (fusion or fission, I don't care), then we can focus on using that energy to produce the hydrogen we'll need for our fuel cell automobiles.
Did I mention that fuel cells don't produce any greenhouse gas either?
Instead of having the government mandate or offer tax credits for all this, create an X-Prize for it. Private industry would get this all done while the government is still sitting on it's hands.

After all, the elected the Big BO to their legislature, and the the US senate and now we're stuck with him screwing this planet too
maybe now we can stop killing babies
I have this switch, on my surge supressor, where everthing plugs into. I turn it off last, and look, no phantom power

about his penis size? No, he's just pissy because he missed his recall to the mothership.
What a nut job.

Um, shouldn't the headline be, "IE8 will be standards compliant by accident"?

Anyone that would get medical information off of YouTube has got to be a low-grade moron. It would be better if those people failed to reproduce.
The U.N. also thinks genocide (when they actually get around to recognizing it) is a form of population control too.
This reminds me of the parable of the starving (insert currently fashionable impoverished group) Darfurian that came to America because (insert non-gender specific politically correct pronoun) he wanted to see a fat poor person.
I'm working my a$$ off to be one of those 2%. When I get there, I'll help the poor by helping them get jobs so that they can do the same thing.

Actually, Dell is leaving the mp3 player market to the big 5. Apple sells more iPods to PC users than all the others.
