"If students can collect credentials from MITx and Khan Academy and other free Web sites, why go to a campus?"
I was going to say that the student misses out on puking in dorm rooms during keggers, fending off advances from lecherous profs, being forced to participate in the college textbook scam, outrageous tuition increases, and on and on...
There is a quote or comment somewhere (cant find it) from someone who said something like "I work/worked for an android OEM and AT&T basically said 'install CarrierIQ or we wont sell the product'". I may have gotten the details wrong because I cant find or remember the exact quote/comment but the gist of it is that its the carriers that are insisting on this and the handset makers have no choice but to comply.
In a chat conversation with AT&T (my carrier) support, they told me that AT&T does not install CarrierIQ on their phones. I looked through the phone and can't find it. So what gives?
I have an AT&T provided Samsung Galaxy and don't see it on that phone. AT&T Support also provided the following:

When I first read Fahrenheit 451 decades ago what struck me most was when the authorities zeroed in on some hapless fall-guy who took the hit for Guy Montague. All that mattered to the public watching the video was that *someone* took the fall.
It did not matter if a crime took place. It did not matter if the real perp got caught. The public need for resolution was achieved at the expense of some/anyone. In my current work with databases I see errors that get accepted as fact even if I explain why the error occurs. Similar to my dear departed grandmother telling me "I saw it on TV so it must be true". Good grief, why is everyone so willing to hand-off their self-actualization/responsibility to some government flunkies?
Right about the same time my parents gave me 1984 to read and I've been watching us ride that slippery slope. So sad and so unnecessary except it DOES keep the powers-that-be in power!
I disagree. The point everyone is missing is that even with supposed spending cuts of $1.2 trillion it STILL doesn't make a dent in the debt nor solve the problem.
when its 5.30am and you have not had your coffee yet, sometimes tags don't get balanced. sigh. again, sorry I left out a close-bold tag. yeah yeah, preview mode. duh.
Funny, I was thinking along the same lines except from the point of view that this is a precursor for when gubmint takes over healthcare in the U.S. This would be a great way for it to hold costs down.
I predict the system will experience some kind of failure resulting in additional [legislation, spending, you-fill-in-the-blank] resulting in even greater abrogation of civil rights... all in the name of "fighting terrorism". Think of the children!
Lucas also tried to rid the world of the Star Wars Christmas Special, arguably the worst thing my eyes have ever seen and lo and behold it won't go away. I'm sure the Streisand Effect will keep the originals alive.
and yet... John Corzine is still walking the streets.
Exactly the same experience. His form letter blew off any concerns I addressed by ignoring them.

Tow it up to the Arctic and use it to encapsulate the methane.

LOL...gubmint is what allowed this in the first place!

Don't sweat it! Your comment was right on target.
It just proves that asteroids are made up of perfectly shaped blocks.
So, you're a global quaking denier?

I'd use that free month's worth of support to have RIM help me move my account to another service.
Wonder if they'll do that?
Kinda validates the Pirates > Global Warming connection...
yo mama.
Whopping? That's only about four times larger. Certainly not "whopping".
Ah...but convince me that Social Security *isn't* a Ponzi scheme.
Yet *another* reason to abandon Windows.
I'd like to applaud "Dr. Bob" for doing more to debunk the validity of chiroquacktic than anyone.

Not that they are worth keeping alive...
