Well, perhaps before Office is ready (if this isn't a hoax), someone should write up a small notice or letter stating WHY Office won't sell well and kill any chance of hooey-shooting Microsoft has. If they try and do it, we could wave the document in front of their faces and say 'we predicted this, but we won't buy into your tyranny!'
I know exactly what you are talking about. For years I've been hoping that Ultima 7 (and Serpent Isle) would be open sourced, in hope that someday someone would be able to extend it and customize it. A few times my hopes were raised whenever I heard that Origin was thinking about it. I use to frequent the ultima dragon's newsgroup and was told that the source to Serpent Isle had been "lost." I'm not sure about Ultima 7. Anyway, I have always hoped that those 2 games, quite easily two of the best games ever, would come out into the open and allow customization. I follow the Exult carefully and am quick to download the newest changes. In fact, as I'm sure many of you do, I kept my old 486 solely for the purpose of playing Ultimas.
Have you ever considered just using HTML documents(web pages) for slide shows? It's easier to link things and you don't have to worry about only travelling in one set direction; if someone asks a question and the answer is on page 1 and you are on page 17, why not just have a link that leads to every page? That way you don't have to flip 16 pages back. Just an example, I usually find that HTML works better for slide shows than Powerpoint apps.
Yeah...that probably IS the reason NASA doesn't want to crash Galileo on Europa...they fear retribution! I did a research paper on Europa not too long ago and I have some links about Europa if anyone is interested.
Or...maybe we should crash it into some moon that might have some chance of supporting any possible microbe (Ganyemede or maybe Titan?) Maybe we could START life then...
In case you haven't noticed, Mozilla isn't really trying to win the "war", at least that's what my take on this whole issue is. From what I understand, the Mozilla project is aiming to create a browswer that is stable, fast, supports standards, and modular. Since Mozilla will/already have/has support for skins, it has the option of appearing like any other browser or something completely new. Personally, I really don't care whether IE or Opera or Konquerer or Mozilla or even Lynx wins the "war", I just want to use a browswer that is fast and stable and customizable. So far Mozilla isn't quite there yet, but it will be.
Is it just me or do all the "I'm going to get moderated down for this" posts get moderated up? This isn't intended as a flame, I'm just wondering why people must constantly forwarn others about how they feel their opinion is. Just say what you intend to say and let it be that. What does it matter if you get moderated down anyway? Some people will still read it.
At this location (bottom of age), you say that you designed computers just to show people that it could be done and to help people. You also say that it was hard for you to start the company when you heard that money could be made from the formation of it. Has this changed since? Do you ever consider working with the open source community in some respect, whether it be programming or just endorsing?
Personally, I think Ultima 7 is the best CRPG available in terms of story, gameplay, graphics (they still aren't BAD) etc... The only problem was the lame memory issue. I've been wanting to play similar games for such a long time, except it seems that no other company, for ONCE, bothered to copy such a great game. I know there are some map editors availbable for the game and there is Exult, which allows you to move around the Ultima 7 world in Linux. I am wondering if anyone at/. knows of further information on the hoped Ultima 7 (Not Serpent Isle) source code release or of any other development on Ultima-like games.
Who's to say that Microsoft just won't take this opportunity to buy out this company and go into the tobacco/alcohol business? I think it would be really easy to subvert drunks into buying MS products.
Try checking out this site for more info.

My, I've always wanted my very own Limited Edition Terminus Est sword. That thing hauled ass!

Anyway, the book is extremely good. If you haven't read it...read it!
Hell, I always thought Playstation's referred to "playing with my station," but I guess I ply to satan is even worse.

I think Bill Gates has been watching the movie Casino a little too much if that is the case...
Get over it :)

* Wrote and played some really damn fine Hard Rock tunes in the 80's. Anyone remember Modern Day Cowboy?
