Alright, that was pretty lame of me. What I meant, but what I didn't say, was that one should be cautious about what one is ramming the computer. Not that one shouldn't have removable devices, but that removable media should be watched. I meant floppy disks, not floppy drives. Yet the principle still holds, if its important information, possible causes of contamination should be dealt with accordingly.

  2. Wise encryption. on McAfee Will Ignore FBI Spyware · · Score: 1

Just proves that one should always encrypt on a known secure computer. One that has not nor will be ever connected to a network, be it the Internet or some LAN/WAN. Additionally, the computer should never be infected with potentiallly comprimising tools (floppy drive, CD-ROM, etc...). Encryption should also be conducted on a known secure operating system of some sort. There are many other techniques for those encrypting potentially devestating information.

When I realized that the last digit was a 4, instead of a 5, I understood the hopelessness of his situation. Failure to acknowledge perhaps the greatest CRPG of all time---Ultima 5, may mercy be unto it, hail the king, etc...---makes him slightly more palatable than JonKatz. Hrmm, maybe that's a bit harsh.

Stunts couldn't compare with Stunt Car Driver. I'm not sure about the relationship between the games, but in almost every manner Stunt Car Driver surpassed it. Running into cows and hearing "moos," racing against an old granny that hogged the road, slamming into the back of the repair shop and destroying the car, etc. It was the perfect game. My favorite tactic was to line up a very long straight path of track and have an opening bridge at the very end. I would time how long it took for the bridge to raise and lower, and then drive as fast as I could and try to hit the bridge at its highest point. Man, that car sure could fly.

Also, the builtin car changer/editor was pretty neat when I found it.

I remember playing it for the longest time using only a keyboard, and when I finally got two joysticks for Christmas -- wow! I just tried a new nightly of Mozilla and the TAB autocomplete does seem to work now (maybe I just got unlucky before). However, it still doesn't seem as fluid as in galeon. You'd almost have to try it to understand what I mean. I don't like the window that mozilla pops up, and I detest how it automatically completes names, although I know you can turn that off.

Now I only wish they'd rip that TAB Autocompletion from Galeon as well. I find it much more error proof than the typical autocompletion and much faster than drop down windows. Now if Galeon would load huge slashdot pages incrementally, I'd love it even more.

It wasn't really a personal attack against you, more of a dislike for same old "Oh, wrong XYZ" type of joke. I would link to a bunch of them to aid my case of their overuse, but I'm too lazy and there are too many. If you took my comment as a personal attack that's fine, but a little less self importance might have been better.

BTW, I actually did think the run-length plot compression was pretty funny, but without the attached "wrong Hubbard," I think it would have been much more effective; however, it probably wouldn't have generated as many mod points due to its subtlety.

It amazes me that the same 'jokes' always seem to be modded up; I wonder if everyone around here laughs at the same jokes over and over, even after they've worn thin and used in practically every Slashdot article ever written.

I don't think the book is meant to be analyzed at face value; it's more of a "read this a few times and maybe you might get it" type of read. Oh yeah, there actually IS a plot to the story.
