    Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant mutability in the sense that while the values in an array can change, the structure cannot.

    As for how bad it is, I'm not that concerned. If you're using functional paradigms regarding values, this just isn't an issue at all. Functions shouldn't be modifying passed in structures in the first place. That's just a horrible, albeit common, coding practice.

    So they're only allowed to do things that other languages have done? Also, given that there's literally thousands of languages, you can be certain that at least one other language has done this.

    As for CoW semantics, there's no such thing as a mutable array. Even languages that offer such a construct (like Ruby) are just hiding the mechanics they use to reallocate memory. Swift is essentially exposing this to the developer. I agree it's a bit odd but not the end of the world. There are a millions worse things in languages that are very popular.

    I don't see what the big deal is. If you modify the size of an array, regardless context, you get a different array. Not exactly a brain buster.

    I use to own iPhones, and I never had a problem with using them as a phone. So, I don't really get your comment about them not working well as a phone. They even allowed you to access the browser and other apps while using it as a phone. Plus they had visual voice mail. In short, I completely disagree with your assessment.

    Well until there's a German version of Snowden, we don't know what the BND is doing. That said, it's an extremely safe bet they spy on the US because there is no treaty between the two countries that makes it illegal.

    There is no evidence that the NSA has participated in any such thing. Snowden accused them of industrial espionage but I have yet to see a single leak that confirms it. If it were happening, Der Spiegel would have released it already.

    The program was classified so there's no way in hell they would have known the program under which they were compelled to provide information is called prism. It's not lawyer, speak it's common sense. Additionally, Apple and the other companies mentioned have openly stated they had been compelled by court order to provide information about specific users. TL;DR: There's no smoking gun here.

    I hate to break this to you but the vast majority of what the NSA does is perfectly legal. Don't blame the NSA for the PATRIOT act and other absurd privacy violating laws. And feel free to educate me on what treaties they've violated.

    I would agree that gradle is far better than Maven and Ant when it comes to syntax and flexibility but it's not known for it's definitely not known for its fantastic performance.

    As someone who has used IntelliJ since version 3, I can say without equivocation that it has always been well ahead of Eclipse. The only reason Eclipse was as popular as it was is that it's free and I've found programmers to be the cheapest mofos on the planet.

    I've been coding in Java for over a dozen years now and I can say without equivocation you're either a liar who's never actually worked with it or you're a fucking troll. Write once, run anywhere is is 100% real and is so common that it's a joke. Many places I've worked at the developer develop on Windows but the code runs on a linux server. At my current place of employment, we code on Macs and deploy on Linux. We never, ever get platform issues. It's rock-fucking-solid. Now, I'm not going to say that it's impossible to have a problem but you have to be a huge moron of a programmer to run into it. For example, building filesystem paths where the path separator is hard-coded. So if you're having a problem, it's you. Learn how to write code.

    They have less than a half trillion dollars in reserves...it's not gonna do much other than fuck themselves over. Plus, the west can enact sanctions that are far more economically devastating than anything Russia could hope to do. Net effect: the Russian ruble becomes nearly worthless. And really, that's just the start.

    This. I'm continually shocked at how few gamers understand how to tune their mouse for gaming. I get a huge kick out of people's reactions when they use my mouse at work because of the sensitivity and it freaks them out.
