    If somone in the UK broke in to Microsoft headquarters and managed to download the full XP Source Code with the intention of studying it in order to write better Windows client software then it would probably cost them 3 months in stir and a monkey [£500] .

    okay I agree with the premise that older cards will do just fine but the Doom3 alpha wasn't pushing the limits like I expect the ifnal release to do.

    A couple of dynamic lights and some bump mapping.

    You can still get q3 to reach the limits of the Ti4600 128Mb. Heck, even the original Unreal still poses a test with eveything turned up!

    okay it can do file objects but whee so what, dont cut & paste too many Excel spreadsheets these days

    lets face it, Windows is not designed for serious computer users, it's aimed at droolers. 90% of end users dont even use the clipboard. If you inflicted an X style sweep & copy on 'em they'd be phoning the AOL support line all day.

    I'm surprised that plan9's chording hasn't caught on anywhere else. Buttons 1&2 for cut 1&3 for paste.

    as a rookie IT admin in a 2 man outfit [where the other guy is sales] it was the FreeBSD ports that attracted me to it (along with the 2 floppy install - the rest comes in on the wire)

    But I love the GPL and all it stands for. It has done much good for computing.

    When you absolutley have to kill every mother fucker in the room: use Debian.

    The aim of Debian might not be to enpower granny to send email but to provide a totally unencumbered OS.

    Which is why it seems improper to insult them as "anal" when they are merely following the letter of their mandate.

    Would you call Debian "anal" for say, refusing to distribute car tyres with every download? Of course not because car tyres are not what they do. The same is true for free/non-free. Software is either one or the other for some chosen definition and to blur the lines makes no sense.

    Of course it needs a return address.
    Guess who has the delight of that one.

    I don't need bugtraq or Massage Labs to tell me when the newest Email Virus is out. I get at least 20-25 a day.

    I used to try mailing them back and explaining but I stopped wasting my time. The old forged From: problem sorts that one out.
