    What the hell are you talking about? Slashdot has always been a linux-focused WWW site. You microsoft astroturfers are just pissed because you couldn't remake Slashdot into a pro-MS WWW site.

    Personally I don't see anything wrong with VA Linux buying Andover. Better VA Linux rather than the clowns over at ZDNET.......

    You can also thank Jack Valenti for this also. The war the MPAA instigated is going to turn real nasty real fast and a lot of innoncent people are going to get caught in it.

    You got it wrong. What this and other twits mean by USENET "dying" is that there isn't much of a desire to allow crap like HTML and other bullshit in USENET posts. The author most likely started ranting about how HTML in USENET posts was a great idea and got roasted alive for it.

    You're missing the point. The journalling filesystems aren't going to be competing with each other. Rather view them as you would view Linux support for the Amiga filesystem. If you are familar with the IBM journalling filesystem use it. If you aren't use another one. With Linux interoperating with vastly different computer systems, having the ability "plug in" the same filesystem on the linux box as on the other boxes would be an advantage I would think.

    Exactly. That's why it doesn't bother me either. People who use Linux,Hurd or one of the BSD's will never be in the position that the Amiga,Atari ST or users of older Microsoft products like Windows 3.11 find themselves in these days.

    Wrong. You will also be going up against lawyers from IBM,SGI and other corps that has released software under the GPL or a GPL-type license. The playing field has changed.

    If it wasn't for the enviroment the GPL has created, you wouldn't see companies like IBM and SGI supporting Open Source/Free Software in the manner that they are.

    Absolutely. Just use the buttons on the controller next time.

    As for replacing computers absolutely no question here. Just look at how many "generations" of ever faster PC's have been abandoned by the gaming companies while the Playstation has pretty much remained same, but Playstation games just keep getting better. I'm buying a Playstation 2 rather than a new computer or new hardware for my current computer. I'm sick and tired of the PC software/hardware upgrade bullshit.

    You're right. The Soyuz has proven to be a hell of a lot more useful than the Shuttle. What was used to resupply Mir for example? Basically unmanned Soyuz's.

    He's not kidding. What the MPA is now going to have to deal with is prospect of a Vietnam-style war against them. I wonder how long it'll be before we'll see full-scale attacks on their members and their lawyers WWW sites ect. What these idoits at the MPA have done is basically create a self-fulling prophecy. The MPA and their lawyers are creating the hostile enviroment that they seem to fear so much. Ironic isn't it?
